Well, at least we now know when three of the 5 specials are supposed to air - Christmas 2008, following Easter 2009, and Christmas 2009. Too bad the other specials aren't scheduled yet.
Edit:  You're right sgb1975, it is 4 specials. I misread the article (I was still half-asleep when I read it). |

That's too bad they're counting the Christmas specials in that number. I figured that the Xmas episodes were just automatic...
Looks to be 4 specials, not 5. So, Xmas' aside, it's really like we're only getting 2 additional specials. |

| Well, they have a year to perfect them. I will be looking for 4 really good stories. I'm curious to see if they try to link them somehow (A companion that runs just through these 4 episodes only perhaps) or if each will be a stand-alone story. I'm also curious to see if there will be regeneration at the end or if he will do one year of the Moff era like Eccleston. |

| Although this is not exactly great news, or remotely great news, this is still easily the best case scenario hiatus anyone could have asked for. Back in the 90's and early 2000's, I think most of the fans on this forums would have killed to get 4 brand new hour long Doctor Who specials. And knowing that this is only for a year and that the following year we are looking at a full season again is something very comforting. I think we're all lucky that we at least get something new during this. And at very least, we have 4 seasons worth of new series Doctor Who to rewatch in anticipation that only a few years ago would have been unimaginable. |

| Personally I think the whole year off thing is a great idea. It means that the producers really want to get things right rather than just charging ahead year after year. They can look at the mistakes and the triumphs and send the programme off in a whole bold new direction. But most importantly the Vast Toffie gets to solicit excellent (not good but excellent) scripts and approach those who may not usually be available. It would be great to finally see those Stephen Fry or JK Rowling stories! |

| Don't get me wrong. I'm very happy Who is back on the air. But I was hoping they would do something along the lines of a Battlestar Galactica: Razor. I think I would be happier if they did two 2-hour "movies" where they could do a couple really epic stories. Maybe not Dalek Master Plan epic, but something more than what they can do in the usual format. |
