No Starman last night? (Aliens of London) Views: 1841
     Saturday, April 01 2006 @ 09:24 AM EST
When Aliens of London aired in the UK, just as the Doctor is giving Rose his TARDIS key, and he walks away and she's looking at it, David Bowie's "Starman" ramps up in the background for a few bars.

I didn't hear it last night.

Can anyone who recorded it confirm that at 15:30 when the Doctor is walking away and Rose is pondering the key, that Starman is actually not playing, but is replaced by other more generic music?

One solid hope is worth a cartload of uncertainties.

Being a big David Bowie fan, I know exactly where the music is supposed to be. I have not had the time to watch the Sci-Fi Channel showing of Aliens of London yet (it is on my TiVo)... so I will keep an ear out for it and report later.

It is on the DVD (region 1, NTSC) box set, I can confirm that much.

Hey, me too! There's no single performer I like more than Bowie.

Back in the 80s I had about 20 cassette tapes of his work, from his early 60s stuff (including the wonderful "Please Mr. Gravedigger" and "The Laughing Gnome") to his most recent stuff, including "Tonight", his album of cover songs.

I attended his final performance of his "Sound and Vision" tour in 1989, and was about 4 rows back in the mosh pit.

At one point he tossed a pick into the audience and it landed on the shoulder of the girl in front of me, then fell to the floor... with no hopes of retrieval, even though I stuck around at the end to see if I could fish it from the junk on the floor - no avail.

My next CD purchase is going to be his box-set, which I have put off buying for far, far, far too long.

    Hey Sean,

David Bowie's Starman was indeed still there in the Sci-Fi Channel's transmission last night of Aliens of London. It seemed a little lower in volume in the background, but if you turn up the volume during the scene when the Doctor gives Rose a key to the TARDIS, you will hear it in the background.

Yeah, you can have Ken confirm it, I am a huge fan of Bowie going way back when and still today. I saw him twice during his "Sound and Vision" tour... and before that in the "Glass Spider Tour"... in the 90's I was there with him on the same floor about 20 feet from where he was singing with Tin Machine in a small club in Manhattan.... Just recently recently I saw him the last time he played at Jones Beach (for his "Reality" tour). I have his entire collection of music, and so forth...

I also recently discovered Joe who has done a few audio reviews of Big Finish productions and has posted here in our forums under the name "Omega" is also a big Bowie fan.

    Cool beans!
