    1.Tom Baker
    2.Jon Pertwee
    3.David Tennant
    4.Patrick Troughton
    5.William Hartnell
    6.Christopher Eccleston
    7.Peter Davidson
    8.Colin Baker
    9.Sylvester McCoy
    10.Paul McGann
This is based on TV story's only. I Love Sylvester, Peter & Paul's Big Finish work. I especially love Colin's Big Finish work. Though I may love watching/listening to some Doctor's more than others, I love watching/listening to them all.

It seems pretty unfair though, since they're all great. Mind you, my opinion may change depending on the next DVD I watch...

This has always been a tricky one for me as I was 5 when the series ended so didn't grow up with a particular Doctor. I got into the series through the Target books and thereby got to know stories before I actually saw them performed when I started buying them on VHS. That said having now seen every available episode of the show I have tried to form some opinions though I can't rank them from one to ten but rather put them into groups.

    1. Troughton, T. Baker, Davison

These would probably be my top three mainly because they are consistently good.

    2. Hartnell, Pertwee, C. Baker, McCoy

The rest are let down at times by fluffing lines, being patronising, some very bad characterisation (which wasn't his fault) and being a bit too silly respectively.

You'll notice I haven't included McGann or the New Series not because I don't like them but because I find them hard to compare.

McGann didn't have enough screen time to make a proper judgment about his Doctor.

Ecclestone again wasn't around for long enough to be well rounded. His only season was the one that brought the show back after so long and as such is clouded by just being happy that it was back.

Tennant is vastly overrated which isn't to say I don't like him but as the current Doctor he does seem to win way too many of these polls.

Also though there have been times throughout the Classic Series where the Doctor's philosophy has been at odds with my own there has never been a period of the show where this has been consistently so unlike the New Series where I more often find myself disagreeing with something that the Doctor has said or done. This has perhaps lead to me appreciating the portrayal of Ecclestone and Tennant less than might otherwise have been the case.
