Just for kicks, here what the ongoing survey by the DW Dynamic Rankings Site, as opposed to a game, produced. Average sample size was about 1200 respondents, and of course the results aren't statistically valid, because the sample isn't random. More than that, the votes aren't contemporaneous. Because it's a "dynamic" poll, it means that votes are still being counted years after they've been cast. Thus, some of the votes were cast before new DW debuted, or before the story in question might've come out on convenient DVD. Votes come from people who are vaguely remembering a story they saw on TV 20 years prior, and people who watched it carefully on DVD the night before. The poll is really total statistical garbage, but then again, it's so MUCH garbage it's sort of "accidentally random". Nevertheless, it is seen as the de facto "standard" in fan polling, oft-quoted in DWM, Wikipedia, and other places. Certainly, it'll do for a comparison with our little game.

For ease of comparison, our results are indicated (in parentheses).

    01: TALONS (Talons)
    02: GENESIS (Pyramids)
    03: CITY (Robots)
    04: PYRAMIDS (Assassin)

    13: DECAY (Stones)
    14: MORBIUS (Face of Evil)
    15: STONES (Ribos)
    16: MANDRAGORA (Pirate)
    17: TRAKEN (Planet of Evil)
    18: RIBOS (Android Invasion)
    19: FACE OF EVIL (Fendahl)
    20: PIRATE (Hand)
    21: TARA (Meglos)
    22: CIRCLE (Decay)
    23: HAND (Invisible)

    30: INVASION OF TIME (Kroll)
    31: LEISURE (Leisure)
    32: ANDROID INVASION (Traken)
    33: CYBERMEN (Tara)
    34: ARMAGEDDON (Cybermen)
    35: NIGHTMARE (Creature)
    36: MEGLOS (Sontaran)
    37: CREATURE (Armageddon)
    38: KROLL (Invasion of Time)
    39: INVISIBLE (Logopolis)
    40: NIMON (Nimon)
    41: UNDERWORLD (Nightmare)

    Some notes:

      * Results were exactly similar in only three cases; there's only a 7% convergence between the two results.
      * Whether results are broadly similar is a much more difficult question. There are a few cases where our rankings are "off by one", but it seems to me the best you can say is that there's an 80% chance that our top 10 contains the same entries (regardless of order), but that's the closest we came to duplicating the DWDR results. For instance, there's only about a 60% chance that our bottom 10s will contain the same members.
      * Graham Williams bears much more of the negative load of the DWDR results than ours.
      * Our Logopolis (and to a lesser extent, Traken) results pop out as being completely contradictory to the fans who voted in the DWDR poll. We've got it as one of the three worst; they've got is as the ninth best. (Personally, I think it's a load of old cobblers and should be at the bottom.) Meanwhile, our Traken is at 32 whereas theirs is a much higher 17. (Just to round out the "trilogy", DWDR voters better preferred Castrovalva, but then, I know I voted actively in the HURT/HEAL 5th Doctor poll to get rid of that tale.)
      * Our results kiss Hinchcliffe and Holmes' asses more than the DWDR. Our top 10 is entirely script-edited by Holmes; theirs (properly, in my view), puts City of Death in the top 3 and also lets a JNT serial slip into the top 10. We've got the same number of Hinchcliffe/Holmes in the bottom 10 (2), but we've decided that The Sontaran Experiment is a full 18 points lower than The Android Invasion.
      * Maybe the most surprising thing to me in our results is Underworld. It is by far the worst-rated entry on the DWDR poll, garnering a minute 4.11/10. It's a almost a full point off Nimon, and it's nearly 2 points off the "top of the bottom 10", The Leisure Hive. There are only three stories from any era that the DWDR ranks lower, whereas there are a ton between Nimon and Underworld. Put more concretely, Underworld is 212th out of 215 stories, with only .34 separating it from The Twin Dilemma. Nimon is only 199th, with a comfortable 1.16 lead on the cellar dweller. Yet we've cast it into the middle of the pack. And, really, there's an Underworld in every one of these games. It's the bad story that gets high result simply because it was so unregarded people forgot to vote it out. This result clearly shows the difference between a game and a poll.

I'm more impressed with how close our poll come so close to the poll you cite.

Granted a few varied greatly but, for the most part the same show is usually a few spaces away in the other poll.
