    BEING HUMAN season one

Just finished watching all six episodes plus the unaired or first pilot movie (watched it second after ep1 and then resumed after the pilot with ep2). A great show. The actors are all excellent, especially the three leads. It seems like a joke at first: there’s these two guys, one is a vampire and the other a werewolf and they go rent this apartment and find out it is haunted by this female ghost, see…the show definitely has a humorous side to it but it is not a sitcom. It only sounds like a sitcom. The show is definitely more dramatic than DEMONS and BEING HUMAN is probably the better series, however it doesn’t stop me from enjoying both. BEING HUMAN is more about people, DEMONS is more like BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER for the 21st century. The interplay between the characters, both the main three, and the outside world human characters is excellent, the stories tight and interesting, the leads all watch-able and attractive. The original pilot had two other people playing the vampire, Mitchell, and the ghost, Annie and while they are good and also likable, the leads they eventually went with for the actual season one’s six episodes, are much, much better. There are twists and turns, most of them I didn’t see coming, one I definitely didn’t see coming. And I guess for the sake of having only six episodes, some things seems a bit rushed but that’s okay in my book. This show is perfect and for taking clichés about ghosts, vampires, and werewolves and making all three “monsters” watch-able again, it’s done, for me, what the last few years’ Hollywood and big theatrical movies could not do: make me care about vampires, werewolves and ghosts again. The set up at the very end was a bit strange: who were these men, especially the older guy? A Zombie? A mad doctor’s aide? More vampires? It makes me intrigued for next season, which can have a few returns I imagine: the mentor werewolf, the boy vampire, the scratched girlfriend, the insane boyfriend?
