    MEDIUM season five Views: 650
     Tuesday, April 21 2009 @ 07:16 PM EDT
Just a short note. MEDIUM bursted upon me in season one and I thought it was just so great. That first season brought horror and mystery back to tv in a way that I hadn't seen for some time. It had twists and turns, gimmicks that worked, and snappy dialog and plots and likable characters. Then season two happened and we got more of the same. Occasionally Allison would see a ghost. Then GHOST WHISPERER came and I can't say enough great things about season one of that show. It has to be the warmest, most beautiful season of any show, part TOUCHED BY AN ANGEL, part MEDIUM, part MILLENNIUM, part THAT GIRL. All with a human touch, that MEDIUM slowly got away from.

Very human, GHOST WHISPERER outshadowed MEDIUM in many ways. The twists and turns made sense, the characters were MORE likable, and the plots different and not always involving murder. MEDIUM continued on and on, suprising me that it did. Both shows sort of require a belief in God and the afterlife (or a sort of after life)or one or the other for maxiumum enjoyment.

I lost interest in MEDIUM and didn't even watch many episodes in seasons 3 and 4. GHOST WHISPERER had arcs and stuff and sort of got away from the warm human stories sometimes but it almost always had my attention and it had to change somewhat. MEDIUM almost never changed (except that Allison's family got really annoyed at her and her powers and really really whiny and picky) and I expected it to not last...and then...

season five happened. I wasn't impressed by the first part of season five, the current one. Then about five weeks ago or so...and I must admit that Monday night is a GREAT night for it right now as there is nothing else on (CSI MIAMI long ago lost my interest).

Yes, there are still murders happening. But Allison lost her powers, had her powers twisted by some ghost of a man that stalked her, and had her family threatened. Yes, some of that happened in the past but just has more impact on me for some reason. It's been good. Really good. It hasn't been this good for years and the dialog and scripts are witty, funny, and scary, geniunely scary again. MEDIUM might not last into a season six but if it was going to be this good if it did, it would be a shame that it wouldn't continue IMO.
