Okay , some people feel this story is incredibly cheap looking and I don't agree except for maybe the fight scene in the hallway, that long hallway and it looks like an ameteur film makers' day in the long hallway. It also doesn't look like the gunplay is...well, dangerous but in DW you have to imagine sometimes---like imagine what they were actually going for. Rather than a smiling Leela safely parading past a couple of guards that are hiding from her...well, she does get shot.

Anyway, these two episodes slow down a bit but only just. The Doctor's rescue of Leela calls to mind the "slowest rescue in the history of mankind" quote from RISE OF THE CYBERMEN part two or whatever that was called. He sure took his time! Anyway it was fun to see the cliffhanger and the Collector is suitably funny and creepy and slimy to be both different from Davros and his own character.

Tom is Tom and he's quite good almost all the time but here, he excels. I for one can believe him as a rebel leader as he's very serious at times and yet at other times he's acting comical. And I just love that. He's this quirky, funny, whirling giant of a man who just runs around, stops, jumps, double takes, etc. THIS is the Doctor I love. This is the Fourth Doctor I love. He insults with the best of them, angers, ignores (especially K9's "not necssary"), plays with words, continues to quote from many things, some of them obsure, some of them famous. I just love him and DW was lucky to have had him. I feel the same way about Louise Jamieson. No matter what Leela is doing, you can be sure she's true to the savage and the learning student. ANd a killer or sometimes a former killer.

The rebellion in ep4 is a bit violent in attitude if not visually, tossing the Gatherer over the side of the building and literally taking joy from it but revolts are revolts and it could have been far more violent. What happens in the other cities? Do they revolt at the same time?

The hypnosis bit with Leela falling (rather funny I thought) under Tom's spell as well the guard and the knife throwing later are all well done. Tom interacts so much better with Leela than with Sarah; in fact he interacts with everyone so well, it's a joy. His confrontation with the Collector is well done and a fun scene to watch.

All in all another good story that doesn't flake out completely in the end! Well done.
