    THE INVASION OF TIME 4

I'm thinking of doing threads under each title from now on. Would anyone understand that I'll then put 5 and 6 under this thread even if it is later on?

This story continues on and is still quite good. Gallifrey it must be noted has a lot of killing going on. The rebels die; Andred later seems to kill a few of Kelner's guards; Leela and her outlers kill with arrows a few of the guards. Why it couldn't be stunned I don't know, apparently this was in the script, the rebels were just stunned. In any event, of note is that Tom Baker railed against a violent character such as Leela and in some respects he might have been correct, however, there's a lot of violence going on even without her around. Borusa does not appear in this episode.

Tom's showcase continues and I don't mind at all. He gets more jokes in this story than in the past five stories! And it fits and is funny. The Vardans are revealed and for once they are just humanoids. They do seem very dangerous however as they can travel along wavelengths and human minds included. So K9 gets all the saving to do. Tom's very funny when he tells Leela she should take up killing as profession and she doesn't understand what the word proficient means. In many respects, this story and many others are scripted for adults to get the jokes. I mean how many young children do know what proficient means?

Again a good cliffhanger, probably the best of this story as...a new threat behind the threat reveals itself. ANd just when the Doctor sent the Vardans packing back to their home planet...what about their spaceship or was it the Sontaran ship all along? Which seems forgotten about later? Or did the ship get destroyed later anyway, more later on that. Anyway the Sontarans appear here and in force this time, not just the one we see in the stories before this. In many ways this story is their tour de force as I hate and don't count THE TWO DOCTORS as any crowning achievement of their's as they are terribly depicted there and are second fiddles, third if you count Shockeye (and I do, he's one of the only good things about that story).

In any event, the Doc has not yet seemed to time loop the Vardan planet or has he?

It doesn't matter. And again, the cliffhanger reprise from 3 in 4 is different slightly from the way it was presented in 3. Tom's almost silent "but" from 3 is not present in 4's reprise. It also seemed edited differently with bits taken out from the other set.

    In all, a good episode.
