So the Doctor has killed someone. Or not. Well he's responsible for putting the bomb on Graff Vynda K, not that the stupid killer didn't deserve it. Of all four episodes, I found this one the oddest. The Doctor seems to be hiding and skulking, he's dressed as one of the guards and remains that way until the climax. Romana gets away with K9 and is in the tunnels. The Graft or whatever his name is, overdoes it again. The acting is very over the top but I guess that's what they wanted from this loud mouthed warrior character who never seems to get what he wants. Granted, he seemed more dangerous as he kills the Seeker. I must say as annoying as she was, it was sad to see him kill a woman, who really didn't do anything wrong to him or the others. Glad to see his second go though. Graft kisses him. To be honest, I thnk they were going for a comradeship among warriors but it certainly looked as if they were having a relationship when thinking about all their scenes before.

There's some fun stuff going on here but it's a very sedate episode for an ending. The cannon takes care of most of the characters and the Graft and the cave in takes care of the others, I think.

Nowadays an ep like this one would never be done. A small scale story in a small scale planet with a pretty human or humanoid villain and a hunt for a certain jewel or object. It must be jarring to viewers who have only seen the new series and not the old. Likewise, anyone who is aware of the old show that did this sort of thing often, who watches the new series must be like, "What's this? Earth in danger every week? Large scale battles all the time? Huge set pieces all the time? Wot?" Anyway, this story shows how flexible the show can be, even in this time period. Yes, the Doctor solves things, pretty much but by doing something...well, small rather than moving planets around. That comes next.

Frankly, after this one, I thought the "find the key to time segments stuff" would go flat and that they would all be the same. I couldn't have been more wrong.

True, if for no other reason than the fact that it doesn't involve a planet called Earth. But hopefully that'll all change in about a year...

I wouldn't count on it. The ratings is all they want and all they get...with Earth as the center of EVERY season.
