    Recording TV Audio Views: 882

What's the best way to record audio from a film/TV show into an audio format? I'm looking at recording snippits from TV stored on my hard drive into a format that Audacity can read but I;m not sure how to do this

What system are you running Abersoch?

If you have a PC you might just be able to use the Windows Sound recorder to record the output of your soundcard.

If you are using a Mac, why not try Wiretap or Audio Hijack Pro?

There used to be a way that I ahve done it in the past and maybe it can work for you. At one time I had an old stereo reciever/amplifier and feed my computer audio into it along with my VCR and TV as an input. What I would do is cue up a sound clip on my VCR and then make sure the windows sound recorder was set to record. I would start the computer and then play the video tape and then volila it records the sound as a wav file on my computer. I know it sounds a little complicated but with the right wires it works very well. Basically some RCA cable and adapters and you are set.

To get the quality is a real problem.

With stuff I've recorded onto DVD (from the TV) I've used a free program called 'Free DVD MP3 Ripper' by

This works with DVD-Rs - and then Audacity will change this into a wav file to work.

But when I tried it with stuff I recorded onto DVD-RW it didn't work (not finalised I think)

I tried in Audacity directly - you can choose the sound input - and it did capture the sound but with a lot of noise.

    Good Luck, daveac

My favourite piece of software for capturing audio through the soundcard's line-in is Audiograbber ( .

I've had very good results capturing my records, and although I've never used it for capturing audio from a television, it should do the trick pretty well.

The program works for windows computers, and best of all it's free.
