Wow! Thanks Mike!
Yeah, after what happened to Agyeman's character in Army of Ghosts we began to write off the tabloid story and rumours of her being the new companion. There was some discussion that her character would somehow return to be a companion, or perhaps the alternative Earth version or something along those lines. But I don't think anyone would have thought she would be playing a completely different person altogether... so soon after Army of Ghosts well... I say "so soon" when in reality by the time Series 3 comes around when this companion is introduced on screen, almost a year would have passed since Army of Ghosts (our time).
I wonder what "surprise" they have in store for the Christmas special this year. Perhaps Captain Jack as a tie-in with Torchwood? Although he is supposed to be back sometime in Series 3 itself, so perhaps something different.
Cheers,

I was hoping for a male companion this time...sigh...maybe Capt. Jack will be in several eps of season 3...one can only hope. Freema will certainly be creating history as the first "companion of color" in the series!
Somewhere in the back of my mind, though, I keep thinking this is all a big hoax and Rose won't really be leaving, that they're just creating a smoke screen. But I'm sure that's just wishful thinking! |

Yeah...
Bringing back a previous actor or actress as a companion is not unheard-of, and certainly not unwelcome.
But two episodes later???
Unless it's perhaps the alternate universe version of the same character, though the press release clearly states it's another character altogether.
We'll have to see... she does have camera presence, I'll give her that.
And RTD says she won't be in the Christmas special...
...so I guess we'll have to reserve judgement on this until early next year.

How many eps were there between Lalla Ward's guest appearance as Princess Whatever and her taking over as Romana?

| Two episodes, five episodes, ten episodes - what does it matter as long as it works in the story? I'm reserving judgement till I've actually seen the programmes. |

That was explainable... Romana regenerated into the form of Princess Astra.
