Louis, the sound quality on your new microphone is fantastic! What a major difference in quality. I have to get one for myself. I've located the web site and will soon be throwing my money at them. I just can't decide which model to buy. I love the retro look they've adopted for many of their products.
Thanks for the tip!

Hi Dave,
Yeah, the new mic is great... Though I as I commented elsewhere, it is a bit too good. I normally record in the summer without the AC on so that the noise of the AC is not picked up, but it means that my fans in my tower are cooling off the CPUs more often... and the new mic picks up all the fan noise (and that's not even in omni-directional mode).
The upcoming Doctor Who: Podshock - Episode 47 was recorded before I got the new mic... so it is still the old set up with that episode. The next time I record, may test out which is worse, the noise from the AC or the fans from the tower when it is picked up on the new mic.
So far, I am pleased with it. And set up is a snap, which is the reason I looked into getting a different mic... No XLR cables to run, booms to set up, pre-amp to adjust, etc. And of course, nothing to breakdown after recording.
Cheers,
Louis |

Louis, thanks for the info. I didn't detect any ambient noise from the CPU fans on first listening. I'll listen to the episode again to see if I can pick it up.

Oh, I did try to filter it out in post. Hopefully, they are not too noticeable in the final product, but I can hear them in the raw audio that was recorded.
It does have a omni-directional mode as well... it will be handy doing live recordings with multiple people this way. In the past, we had to jungle two mics around, this could probably handle a roundtable-like discussion with just the one mic when in that mode. It has three modes, so in a sense, it is almost like getting three different mics in one.

Arrh! but can it hover like a Dalek! - it really does look like something out of Dr Who as you said.
