Does anyone know if there are any plans to come out with one of these?
I know back in the DalekMania days they had a PVC one.

My 6yr ald son really wants to be a Dalek for Halloween (he wanted to last year but I couldn't find anything)
Or if all else fails... has anyone ever made a simple Dalek?

    Thanks Everyone

There is an out of print Doctor Who costume book with knitting patterns and the like. I have it, but it's been put away; I'll hve to dig it out to check if there is a dalek costume in there.

I have never tried, but I would think that for a 6 year old you could probably do pretty well with cardboard or large oaktag sheets, styrofoam balls (cut in half) and assorted other add ons (foam core and such) to it to make a pretty good dalek body. Foam core is pretty easy to cut and you can draw the shapes on it easily so you can be sure you get the shapes you want and it comes in different thicknesses or can be layered for more thickness.

Just need to make some shoulder straps to go over his shoulders, of fabric, so it can rest on them and he can walk easily in it. Some safety pins pinned to his clothes should keep it in place fairly well.

The head piece can be made of some paper mache, the bars part probably the most difficult part to make but if you have a good size form (think oaktag taped in circle the size you want with a plastic ball on top) to work around you should be able to make it.

It would be a big project, but if you started early you could have a lot of fun with it. It should not be that heavy either and you can make the dalek head with black fabric behind the bars on the lower half with one open area for his face so he will be able to see out of it.

And you can even make it so he can control the arms if they stick through a hole in the costume with handles of some sort on the inside he can move them up and down.

Spray painting the whole body once you have it all assembled will be a big task, but I am betting your son could help stick the styrofoam balls onto the body and such, simple glue can get most of it done.

Hardest thing of all is getting initial size worked out in drawing of a sort, for dimensions mostly, working off your son's shoulder height, but once you get the size of the dalek body part how you want it all the other measurements can work off that.

It would be a fun project. For a child definitely, for an adult probably a bit too involved since getting cardboard the right size would be more difficult.

I've seen a few sites with instructions - they are usually a bit complex - but if you've got the time, why not!

This one looks to be about my level of expertise:

    (found here).

And this place sells half size Daleks (possibly perfect for kids):

    And Tardis' too:

    And a full size K9:

They've also got plans and materials to build a Dalek yourself.

If you google "Build a dalek" you get lots of sites that claim to have great instructions for it. Ah, if only I had more time and more money! Big Grin

I would love to have a Replica Tardis!
In the middle of the night i would move the thing around town (keep in mind this is small town Texas)
It would be great to see if anyone would say anything.
It would be like "Hey what's that blue thing?, "I'm not sure but yesterday it was in front of the Dairy Queen!","I think it's British?"
Oh the fun i could have!
All i would need after that is a realy long scarf, and a floppy hat, and i would scare the locals to death!
