I was going to say that perhaps the hand landed in the Cardiff Fountain, but then I remembered the ship was above London, wasn't it? Unless the rift in Cardiff pulled the hand there when it fell?
Either way, do I sense some sort of odd sequel or rather remake of The Hand of Fear in the future in either Doctor Who or Torchwood?

Yeah, it didn't take long for me to figure out what was up with the hand once it was exposed to the air and didn't look like an Absorbaloff's hand (refracted in the goo.)
Obviously, Jack is studying its makeup to see if he can't learn the secret of Time Lords. Perhaps he will be able to find out enough about it that he can begin playing with time travel.
Nice references to the TARDIS's previous presence over the Rift, and how the Chameleon Circuit allows for the perception filter... (An SEP field, for those who are unaware of the inventor of this phenomenon.)
But... so Captain Jack is now Captain Scarlet????

I like the aspect of this mysterious hand, and what its purpose could be. I think we all agree it almost certainly belongs to the Doctor from TCI, but what will Jack do with it? I've got 2 theories:
1. Jack will use it to study the regenerative capabilities of the Time Lords, to see if it can somehow explain why he is now invincible and has these Wolverine-like regenerative powers courtesy of Bad Wolf Rose.
Or
2. Jack is still ticked at the Doctor for leaving him stranded on Satellite 5, and to get even, will clone the hand to create an equal, yet evil, adversary for the Doctor (a new version of The Master?). Before you laugh this one off, take into consideration that RTD has already tinkered with classic canon by making half-human daleks and alternate-universe cybermen...If he wants to toy with these 2 hugely popular enemies, what's to stop him from mucking around with a 3rd?
If anyone cares about my 2 cents regarding Torchwood, I think it's an average show. I wasn't overly impressed by the 1st 2 episodes, and admit that I probably wouldn't be watching it if not for the Doctor Who tie-in angle. Whereas Doctor Who already has a huge following here in the states, I don't see this series doing well on the Sci-Fi channel if it ever makes it over here. I'm not ready to write it off yet after only 2 episodes, but hopefully it'll get better.

Revelation of the Daleks has The Great Healer (a reformed? Davros) creating an army of Daleks from human bodies, so this is not unprecedented.
Maybe he'll put the hand in the ressurrection glove... and it will move around like Thing from The Addams Family for 2 minutes.

I think it also depends on what it's made of. When the Doctor loses his hand in In The Christmas Invasion and we see it falling away, it appears to be made from the same material as - say - a cheap, plastic shop-window dummy hand, so presumably it wouldn't go splat.  |

If it is the Doctor's hand... and since he was still in his regeneration cycle when it was severed... and thus he grew another one back immediately. Wouldn't it be interesting if the hand fell to Earth and grew another body. Thus creating two Doctors.
