This puts me in the minority but I have liked all the episodes so far. This was more consistantly good than many of the others and for that I praise it.
Oh and for all those people who wanted Jack to be more of a rogue what do they have to say to the fact that not only did he kill someone but he then joked about it?! That's a pretty dark character. Nicely done.
Roll on next week. |

Was I the only one shocked to see Miss Margaret Hale of 2005's North & South fame in make-up, as a blonde, being bad? What would Mr. Thornton say!
Not sure if anybody else will know this reference but there used to be an old animated Toshiba ad with a song that went "'ello Tosh, got a Toshiba" running through it - and now every time somebody says Tosh that's all I can think of.

Finally got around to watching this episode last night. Sorry, but the urgency just isn't there anymore. I'll post a more detailed entry after reading through the thread, but I'm really glad I wasn't playing the Torchwood Drinking Game last night.

I am with you there... I have been so busy that I haven't had time to watch episode 8 yet (the one after this one). I have been avoiding that thread until I do. Since I will be busy with the post-production of episode 60 of our podcast, I may not get a chance to catch up until the weekend comes. But as you said, the urgency just isn't there.
Cheers,

I can't say that I enjoyed it as much as other people here. It was definitely rehasing stuff we've seen other places better. I did some serious eye-rolling when Tosh started making out with Mary and immediately thought of the TW Drinking Game. I personally thought the Highschool Hijinks, as Merlin put it, was annoying. Whenever I see them doing this stupid grab-assing around I think to myself, "these are the people that will protect us?"

The idea of being able to read other's thoughts is explicitally called a "curse" in The HitchHiker's Guide to the Galaxy. There are also some similarities to this episode and the Buffy episode "Earshot".
Even more recent would be the Big Finish "Benny" story "The Kingdom of the Blind". |
|
It's funny you mentioned Buffy's Earshot. Earlier in the episode when Mary approached Tosh in the pub to get her talking, I half jokingly said "Uh oh...watch she'll turn out to be a Vengeance Demon like in Buffy's Wish." Then when Mary pulled out the amulet I gulped thinking they were actually going to do it. Then when the thought reading started happening, particularly when she heard the guy talking about killing people, I thought about Earshot, too. Although, I didn't make the Unbreakable connection Rocko did, but when I read that comment I couldn't believe I missed it.

I swear I've heard that line before, but I can't remember where and it's driving me crazy.
I could probably write more, but this episode, and increasingly this show, just isn't motivating me enough to care to write more. I could, but what's the point? I'm just counting down until Runaway Bride now. |

Sounds like something Lister might have said about Arnold Rimmer in Red Dwarf - could that be it?

A-ha! A creative Google search told me where it was from and one of my handy books* gave me the exact quote and source.
From the episode "The Principal and the Pauper" from season 9 of the Simpsons.
Superintendant Chalmers (about Principal Skinner): "Good lord! The rod up that man's butt must have a rod up its butt!"

Just seen by accident a Blue Peter article about the Sarah Jane Adventures where it showed an alien of the same species as Mary ( I couldn't tell you if it IS Mary) will feature in an episode of the program.
Thought it was interesting to note this! |
