The remake of Shada had been animated to an extent, as a BBCi webcast, so I doubt that it would be high on anyones list for a remake.

That's true. I remember the webcast now. I should revisit that too. As I recall it though, it was not fully animated... not like Scream of the Shakra... (whatever it is called). It was more like an animated comic book if memory serves.

They could even use the animation from the webcast to fill in the missing bits then on the DVD release.

    Cheers,
    Louis

If I'm not mistaken continuity would be a problem as doctor number 4 would skip a few regenerations into the Guise of doctor number 8.
The McGann "Shada" is pretty much the same animation as "Scream of the Shalka" or any of the other BBCi webcasts. It's non-articulated Flash animation. And that's a valid animated style. Asking for another version of this would be roughly akin to saying that one would quite prefer a 2-D version of Shrek. Maybe one would, and maybe it'd be fun, but it's a whole lot of effort for something that has been completely done in the style the creators intended.

It wasn't "unfinished", in other words.

Continuity would certainly be a problem in taking bits of the webcast and plopping them down into the Baker version, because the webcast takes great pains to give a continuity for why their version stars McGann and Lalla Ward.

I for one would be quite upset if a DVD of the Baker version showed up, and especially if it didn't at least include the McGann version. I really like the animated version (how can you not love a story that has the first appearance of the Ford Prefect?), to the point that I actually consider "Shada" an Eigth Doctor story that has a prequel in "The Five Doctors".

Truth be told, though I can see the utility of re-animation, I'd much rather have more original animation first. Just think of it! We could get a Colin Baker story where he abandons that awful costume . . . only to reluctantly have to put it back on at the end of the season just in time to regenerate!

"I think of myself as ambitious in casting terms, and I know that Bonnie [Langford] has the potential to make the part totally unirritating . . ." JNT, 1986

Perhaps I may be not recalling it correctly as it has been some time since I viewed them... but wasn't the first webcast (pehraps it was a McCoy one), are more basic than the ones that came after it? As I recalled them, they got better with each one... The animation method may have been the same across the board, but the end result of the latter ones seemed more fluid. Again, I need to revisit them again to refresh myself on them.

I completely agree, I would hope that they would include the McGann webcast of Shada on the DVD. That would be sweet. Hopefully they won't be any issues with all parities involved (i.e. Big Finish, etc.) in doing so.

    Cheers,
    Louis

I think that 'The Reign of Terror' (episodes 4-5 animated), 'The Tenth Planet' (episode 4 animated with a better regeneration scene) and 'The Ice Warriors' (episodes 2-3 animated) would be good as a box set 'Lost in Time Part 2: The Stories with Missing Children Animated' (as opposed to orphan episodes)
