New CBBC series The Sarah Jane Adventures will feature the return of some familiar Doctor Who enemies when it debuts later this month.
The Slitheen, a family of scheming monsters first seen in Aliens of London / World War Three are back - and out for revenge.
Following on from a successful special screened on New Year's Day, the ten-part CBBC series stars Elisabeth Sladen as investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith. She'll be joined by young friends Maria and Luke plus new recruit Clyde.
"It's great to be back enjoying Sarah Jane with some fantastic new adventures," Sladen revealed to the BBC's in-house Ariel magazine. "There's still so much more to find out about her after all these years."
Executive Producer Davies added: "This is a wonderful opportunity, to use all our Doctor Who resources here in Cardiff for the making of a brand new drama for CBBC."

This is just a quick note to our loyal listeners and visitors to this website concerning the reason for the delay of new episodes of Doctor Who: Podshock -- It was already mentioned in our forums (see Delayed Podcasts (Update 9-2007), I won't go into details here, but I had been dealing with some family emergencies throughout August and continuing to today unfortunately. We will get the recorded shows out on the main feeds as soon as I can focus myself on editing them. In the meantime, there are new live shows albeit in their "raw" format on Talkshoe which can be downloaded (see Doctor Who: Podshock LIVE).
We have another live show scheduled for this Sunday (the Troughton years). Hopefully we will go ahead as scheduled, if not, I will try to post here. (EDIT 7-Sept. 2007: We will have to postpone the live show originally scheduled for 9-9-2007 back by two weeks due to a unfortunate turn of events. Thanks for understanding).
Thank you all for understanding and to all those that have expressed concerns.
Once again, I am sorry for the delay.
Sincerely,
Louis

Sarah Jane.tv are now reporting that Doctor Who Magazine #386, out today in the UK, gives the closest thing yet to an official launch date for the programme. As has been suspected for a few months now, late September is confirmed. However, a definite time slot has yet to be decided. Head writer Gareth Roberts continues to enthuse about his second story, "Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane?" In earlier issues of the magazine, he had indicated that it was the best work of his professional life, but now he adds that it's the best work of Elizabeth Sladen's career. Praising Graeme Harper's work on the story, he goes on to say that "Liz gives the performance of her life (so far)." Russell T. Davies is likewise impressed with the series, and enthusiastic about Roberts' series finale: . . . [Liz is] very brilliant at not sinking into the softness of a family show. It could be a very cute series, but she keeps that spikiness. There's always that journalist ticking away, and there's still that woman who's been alone for very many years. Especially in the last two episodes, we really play off that - what Sarah was like before she met Maria.

Lucie Miller lives on. Or at least that's what Big Finish want you to believe. The radio companion, who debuted on Radio 7 earlier in the year, has now crossed over into print. Eddie Robson, who wrote several of her adventures in audio, has now written her first appearance in another medium. The story, "Remain in the Light", is a part of Big Finish's Short Trips: Snapshots volume, published last month. But Big Finish aren't playing hard to get with Lucie. Those wishing to read the Lucie story, can now read the whole thing online. 2 comments

John Barrowman likes big bangs.
If that sounds like an obvious statement about Captain Jack's sexual appetites, consider this: Barrowman has recently been caught promoting a serious scientific study examining the original Big Bang that scientists theorize began life in the universe.
In the same way that Star Trek actors have frequently lent their time to the promotion of NASA, Barrowman began giving British audiences an understanding of the work of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) this July.
He's kicking off a series of podcasts which will explain what has been called "the biggest scientific experiment in history". The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) project, run by British physicist Dr. Brian Cox, represents one of the largest governmental outlays for pure research in history.

Sarah-Jane.tv are today quoting from an anonymous source at Upper Boat that adverts for The Sarah Jane Adventures are imminent. The source, which the site's webmaster claims is "one of my longest-serving", scotched an earlier rumor about a Christmas 2007 special. but went on to add:
" . . . there will be some new bits and bobs included on the website - and continual additions as the series progresses, plus some televisual ads due out towards the end of this month, beginning of Sept - obviously! (just before the series starts!)"
The series website continues to be inaccessible to fans outside the UK, but this tantalizing quote, if true, falls in line with other indications previously reported that the show will debut sometime next month.

Last Thursday, ToyNews announced that so-called "classic" Doctor Who will be getting some brand new toys.Character Options have been given the go-ahead by BBC Worldwide to start production on "detailed replicas of classic Doctors, plus a number of monsters." The range will start to hit at least British stores next spring. Jon Diver, a managing director with Character Options said, "The classic licence will broaden the collectibility and enhance the position of the brand." Thanks to Christian Cawley at Kasterberous for pointing us in the direction of this story.

Torchwood TV reported last week that Australia's Network Ten have pulled Torchwood from prime time.Despite a top 10 ratings start, the programme has slipped to merely average ratings of late. This has precipitated a move to Tuesdays at midnight.
There's no word yet whether this means the network is backing away from the upcoming second series. 1 comments

As of today the website TvShowsonDVD.com is reporting that the R1 North American Series 3 release, due out Nov. 6 will have a different cover than the R2 release. Where the R2 release features the Doctor and the Master back to back, screwdrivers at the ready, we here in North Amercia will get a picture of The Doctor and Martha running side by side. It seems to me they want to keep the companion/doctor cover theme going for here and not for the UK. Just thought I would point that out. 4 comments

One of the premiere forerunners in bringing HD content to homes in the US, founded by Mark Cuban and GM Philip Garvin in 2001, HDNet has made a deal for the high definition (HD) rights for Torchwood. HDNet has acquired the rights for the first 26 episodes (presumably series 1 and series 2) of the Doctor Who spin-off series Torchwood.
HDNet will begin airing Torchwood starting on the 17th of September, Monday nights at 7pm ET with encore showings at 10pm and 1am (to accommodate west coast viewers).

Julie Gardner, the BBC's newly-installed Head of Drama Commissioning, said today that a second series of The Sarah Jane Adventures was to start development "very soon." However, her statement that the BBC were "very much hoping that Elizabeth Sladen will come back for more," indicates that the star is not obliged to continue the programme. This is the first hard indication that the BBC intend to continue the programme beyond its initially-contracted run. However it does come weeks before the first series has been broadcast to the British public. The comments came as a part of a wide-ranging interview by Sean Elliot in the American IF Magazine.

Comic news powerhouse, Newsarama are reporting today on news from the San Diego Comic Convention, the industry's largest public gathering. Doctor Who will be getting its own, original American comic book. While Doctor Who fans have concentrated on the heavy BBC presence at the convention, which has included a Torchwood panel, writer Stve Fritz cornered former Big Finish boss, Gary Russell, for a long interview about the Doctor's comic adventures. Along the way, it was revealed that Russell will be writing a new Doctor Who comic for IDW, publishers of comic versions of several television properties such as Angel, 24, CSI, and Star Trek. Nick Roche will handle the artistic chores. The comic will begin as a limited run series, with each issue containing a single story. The Tenth Doctor and Martha will feature, with stories that have a mixture of new enemies and old, including what Russell describes as "something from waaaaaay back in the series history."

Earlier this summer we relayed news from Outpost Gallifrey that suggested K-9 Adventures was still proceeding, despite a year's worth of silence on the subject. Today OG are citing a report from Film Finance Corporation Australia that the show is in fact proceeding as a more-or-less Australian domestic project. Network 10 are currently seen as the likely premiere network, building upon their Doctor Who spin-off success with Torchwood. Producers Penny Wall and Richard Stewart have now both been named. They both have a background in animation and live action principally aimed at young adults. Both, in fact, are coming to K-9 straight from the live-action Australian teenage thriller series, Acolytes. Also named are Simon Barnes (producer for Park Entertainment), and executive producers Grant Bradley, who is also attached to Acolytes, and Jim Howell (for Park Entertainment).
