General NewsFollowing the season one finale of Heroes on 21 May, creator Tim Kring and actress Hayden Panettiere ("Claire Bennett") fielded a series of wide-ranging questions in a live internet chat. One of the questions asked about Christopher Eccleston's future on the program.

Kring responded, "We love Christopher Eccleston and we are really hoping that he'll return to the show next season. It's purely a matter of his availability as an actor, but we're very much interested in that."

This may be made easier by a change coming to the series' format. Kring revealed in the same conversation that he expects the serial format to contract. Whereas season 1 was a single storyline under the heading "Volume 1", he expects season 2 to contain at least two "volumes". Tightening the narrative into separate story lines will naturally mean more definite "recording blocks". This, in turn, should define the maximum length of time guest stars will be required each season, and therefore make it easier to schedule busy guest actors like Eccleston.

Davies hopes for a better 2008 Annual  View Printable Version
     Author:  DarthSkeptical
     Dated:  Saturday, May 19 2007 @ 08:07 PM EDT

Doctor Who NewsEarlier in the year, we reported on the relative success of the 2007 Annual. However, at least one consumer was not best pleased with the BBC's initial yuletide Doctor Who book.

In a 12 March 2007 interview with SFX magazine, the subject of brand maintenance was discussed with Russell T. Davies. He spoke of some specific issues in keeping up the quality of licensed merchandise, and eventually came round to reveal he thought the record-breaking 2007 Annual had room for improvement.

    Here's an extract:

"So yeah, [we try to keep the ''Doctor Who'' brand consistent] in the way that a Hollywood studio looks after Harry Potter. It’s that important to do, to keep the consistency. It’s like when you were a kid you used to buy those famous old Doctor Who annuals that were so mad, and disconcerting, and you wouldn’t sit there on Christmas Day going, ‘Hurray! What a marvellous annual!’ I mean, they were mad! You wanted pages full of Daleks and Cybermen and secrets of the TARDIS and things like that. And I don’t think the annual was good enough this year, to be honest - they had a reprinted comic strip in. This year they’re not going to get away with that I hope, we’ve been sending off memos. It was a lovely piece of work and it made the headlines cos it outsold The Beano; nonetheless - not good enough. The annual was good, but it could get better. So you give notes on things like that, although they don’t always listen to you."

The full text of the wide-ranging interview—which also includes a detailed rationale for keeping the show Earth bound for now—is available online.

DW Reviews Starring Colin Baker as the 6th Doctor.

So here we are with the new Big Finish format.

For those of you who missed the story; about six months ago Nicholas Briggs announced that the Big Finish four episode format would be replaced by a more "traditional" punchier three episode format which would cut some of the "bloat." There would also be a separate single episode "viral story" featuring the same Doctor. Unsurprisingly Big Finish chose a 6th Doctor story to launch this new format but in somewhat of a departure he is companionless for both plays.

The corporation uses a robot called a "Scandroid" to wander the planet scavenging the data and then transferring it to humans directly via a bio data port.

DW Reviews Starring Peter Davison as the 5th Doctor and Sarah Sutton as Nyssah

"Listen to me and listen to me carefully because I am only going to say this 3,048 times!"

What we have here is not as clear cut as the title would have us believe.

Nyssah has been hearing voices and the Doctor has left her in Rhodes during the Crusades to try and discover the source while he lands the Tardis elsewhere to resolve mechanical problems

He materialises the Tardis in London during 2158 and is puzzled by the Daleks failing to invade Earth as he knows they did the previous year. He is quickly buttonholed by General Tillington who reveals that he heads an organisation called Global Warning. Global Warning uses time technology to protect the world which poses some problems for the Doctor because the human race does not discover how to manipulate time for another 200 years and the General knows about the Doctor.
