Robert Sloman who was responsible for writing The Deamons (under the name 'Guy Leopold'), as well as collaborating with Barry Letts for other Jon Pertwee stories such as The Time Monster, The Green Death, and The Planet of Spiders in 1974 which served as the regeneration story from Jon Pertwee into Tom Baker as the Doctor, has died at the age of 79.
In 2004, he contributed on a bonus feature included on the DVD release of The Green Death which he spoke about the writing of the story.

The new Cybermen are great looking... ROBOTS! Let's look at what it is to be scary: a completely machine robot can be scary but what would have been better is the machine/human amalgam - the flesh poking through, a la the Borg. What made the original Cybermen great was not the idiotically huge equipment they carried, but the fact that the only thing hiding the rotting corpse underneath was a thin cloth. Back then they hadn't the budget so they made do with what they had and came up with a truly disturbing image. Now, they make these giant what? ROBOTS. They do not show any human elements. That might be cool looking, but what is missing is the completely disconcerting image of human parts meshed with machine.
I am sure we'll all love the new Cybermen for what they are: villains, but to me, there is little scary about their look. No more than the Lost in Space robot would have instilled terror. Now a thing mostly machine with nearly dead human attributes sticking through... that would be the stuff of nightmares!

The BBC - Doctor Who web site now has a new teaser for The Christmas Invasion available to view over the net. Released on Friday, 2nd of December, the first teaser is only a few seconds long -- it doesn't show too much, but if you imagine seeing this teaser sandwiched between other promos while watching TV, it is pretty cool. They promise another teaser next week... Stay tuned. 7 comments

We have launched a new Media Gallery on our site. There are only a couple albums available now with a few images in each currently, but in the coming weeks we will be expanding it.
Many of the albums will allow you to upload your own images to it. So if you have something you would like to share you may. Submissions will be queued for moderation.
There's also a feature to order prints with the integration of online photo printing through Shutterfly (print availability will vary depending on the resolution of the original image. This is just a patch-through service, we don't receive any commission on it).
More albums will be added soon. Including a TARDIS album (photos of TARDIS' spotted on Earth), an art gallery, and more. If you have a suggestion or idea for an album, please let us know. 3 comments

The BBC Press Office is offering up interviews of David Tennant and Billie Piper in their Press Kit for Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion along with a story summery of the special (which we previously reported here (warning: it contains possible spoilers)).
David Tennant, a life-long fan of Doctor Who comments about the The Christmas Invasion:
"The regeneration process is a severe biological process which takes a fair bit of time. This is not good news for Rose and the rest of the world, because whilst he's going through this, the Earth is being invaded by the Sycorax."
He continues: "It's a very difficult time for Rose. He hadn't prepared her for the changes he'd undergo. So whilst the Doctor is recuperating, Rose is trying to fathom out how she can save the world."
"She's also trying to understand how she feels about him now."
"The Christmas episode is a new start for the Doctor and Rose. They've got to rediscover each other and decipher whether they still feel the same about one another. Despite the new face, he is fundamentally the same bloke, he's still the Doctor and still has a huge amount of affection for her."
"However, it's not just the way he looks or the way he talks that is different. The Doctor's outlook on life has changed, as has the way he tackles situations. I think he's just hoping Rose can accept the changes and they can pick up where they left off."
The Christmas Invasion sees Billie Piper return as Rose Tyler:
"Rose feels so unloved and isolated at the start of the episode," Billie explains.
"She's returned home to her mother and Mickey and as ever they are there for her. But she feels like she's lost her best friend. The earth is being invaded and Rose has no control over the situation."
"The Doctor, who is still going through the regeneration process, isn't there to give her the answers and she's scared."

It was 42 years ago that a mysterious alien with two hearts, traveling in time and space in what looks like a police box first appeared on television.
Everyone here at the Gallifreyan Embassy would like to wish all the best to our listeners, readers, and members on this historic anniversary and for the holiday season. Cheers to the BBC and Russell T Davies and everyone involved in the current series for continuing the legend and ensuring it's future for possibly another 42 years and beyond...

 BBC Press Release:
The Doctor is back for Christmas on the BBC
Doctor Who returns this Christmas as part of the BBC's spectacular line-up of festive viewing...
It's Christmas and Jackie Tyler is at home preparing for the festive season, not knowing if her daughter Rose will be home in time - or at all.
Then she hears the familiar, ancient grind of the TARDIS! Mickey, who is hard at work, also hears it and they both race across the estate just in time to witness the TARDIS' glorious, chaotic crash landing.
The doors open and, much to their delight, out steps Rose and a complete stranger - except it isn't a stranger - it's the Doctor.
(Click the 'read more' for the rest. It's the official BBC Press Release, but it may contain possible spoilers, we will let you make the decision to read on or not)
