The Age is reporting that Colin Baker (the 6th Doctor) and Sylvester McCoy (the 7th Doctor) are currently touring Australia with The TARDIS, a theater production based on Doctor Who. Joining the two actors is Katy Manning (Jo Grant) in The TARDIS which began this weekend in Melbourne and Geelong with future stops in Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane.

Together on stage they share experiences and reveal secrets concerning the long running Doctor Who series. The theatre production coincides with the debut of the latest series on the ABC.

Speaking to the success of the series, McCoy stated, "It is one of those universal stories that people need to hear."

When asked about returning to the newly updated series, Baker responded, "It doesn't need to look back. It needs to look forward."

According to the Guardian Unlimited, the BBC may be selling programing such as Doctor Who among others abroad through the internet. In addition, for the first time it may serve up advertising on its web site to boost revenues.

"It's something we've been mandated to do by our charter. It's now become possible because we have internet rights that we could charge for, and we now have the technology," said Ashley Highfield, director of new media and technology.

Doctor Who's lead writer and executive producer, Russell T. Davies has been named number 14 of 100 top media people in the UK according to BBC News. The annual list ranks media professionals by cultural influence, economic weight and political power. Davies at age 42 debuted on the list at number 14! Not too shabby.

"Doctor Who has the fortune of having found a great lead writer-executive producer in Russell - he has a huge, joyful appetite for television and, in Doctor Who, he's found a format that challenges and rewards his immense talent," the head of BBC Wales drama, Julie Gardner stated.

She continued, "As a producer, Russell is an inspiration - he is hardworking, ceaselessly enthusiastic and able to make people believe they can achieve the impossible."

The Sylvester McCoy story Ghost Light were among the last batch of Doctor Who DVDs released in the US (region 1, NTSC). The three episode story comes off as a very confusing tale. Have you ever had a dream in which events and situations are not grounded in any logic, yet in the dream you accept them anyway? This may best sum up this story. At least it seems like the characters accept everything in this story without exception no matter how off-key and bizarre it may be.

    Doctor Who News

The "Cult" Television section of the BBC web site officially closes today. The BBC - Cult Television site had been the home of the official BBC Doctor Who site as well as other 'cult' TV shows such as Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy among others. If you visit the site now you will be treated to a farewell animation and music which includes K-9 and closes with the closing cue of the Blake's Seven theme (I am not sure how much longer you will have a chance to see this).

Doctor Who fans fear not, while it means goodbye to the BBC Cult TV site where the DW site was located, the BBC is not trashing the DW site (come on, they learned their lesson destroying all those old episodes from the '60s)... The DW site is not closing, instead, it now has a new URL address. The old URL to the 'cult' section still works, it will simply redirect you to the new location. The new URL is a little simpler in fact, it is

Embassy NewsLast month marked the 20th anniversary of the Gallifreyan Embassy. I may have founded it and ran it for the first few years, but it wouldn't have continued on if it wasn't for the hard work of several people...

Special thanks to all those that kept the club going even when the times seemed very bleak. Hats off to Beth, Genie, Lois, Rosanne, and everyone else that continued the regular meetings, continued printing the newsletters, continued to represent the club at conventions (i.e. I-CON), and so forth.
