As previously reported here in the article Colin Baker & Sylvester McCoy Down Under with The TARDIS, the Sydney Morning Herald has an interesting story on the touring stage show today. As previously reported, Doctor Who - Inside the TARDIS is touring Australia with Colin Baker (the 6th Doctor), Sylvester McCoy (the 7th Doctor), Katie Manning (Jo Grant, companion to Jon Pertwee's 3rd Doctor), as well as Tim Ferguson who is hosting the show.
Inside the TARDIS focuses on the effect that Doctor Who has had on pop culture for more than four decades now. The actors talk about their experiences on and with the long running series. The show features BBC footage of the classic series, and a question and answer session with the audience. Overall it is targeted at the mass appeal of the series on culture rather than the real die-hard fandom that is the usual course at conventions.
Katie Manning points out, "There's a huge difference between what we're doing on this show and a convention, where you have hundreds and hundreds of fans from all sorts of walks of life," in the published article. Speaking to conventions, McCoy states, "When I got to America I was greeted by all these incredibly fat ladies dressed in chamois leather!" (referring to the costumed Leela fans).

We can confirm the rumours that Elisabeth Sladen is to be returning to Doctor Who in the next series (season). BBC News is reporting that the character, Sarah Jane who served as a companion for Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker Doctors in the '70s is returning to the show along side of David Tennant (the 10th Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose Tyler). Elisabeth Sladen originally appeared in the series from 1973 to 1976. She returned as Sarah Jane Smith in both a spin-off pilot K9 and Company as well as the 20th anniversary special The Five Doctors in 1983. Although Sladen will be returning, rest assured that Billie Piper will remain in the entire second series (season) despite rumours stating the contrary.
