Doctor Who NewsThe BBC has built new studios in South Wales especially for our favourite Time Lord and our favourite Captain.

After filming the last two series of Doctor Who in various cramped locations (including I.T.V. Wales studios) BBC Wales has officially cut the ribbon on the new location which should be large enough to hold all of the sets used in a series (so they don't have to be torn down before filming can restart) and can even hold the Tochwood sets.

The new property sited three miles outside of Pontypridd is 86,000 sqft has six sound stages; onsite video editing and workshops. It is 10 times larger than the current BBC Wales facilty in Cardff.

Welsh Enterprise Minister, Andrew Davies attended the official opening and David Tennant actually managed to land the Tardis in the right time space co ordinates to join the festivities.

Such an investment can only bode well for a forth series.

    Doctor Who News

The BBC is reporting that Doctor Who director, David Maloney has passed away on the 18th of July.

It was in 1965 for the story, The Time Meddler when he first worked in the series as a production assistant. As a director, he was responsible for some of the classics such as The Mind Robber, The Krotons, The War Games, Planet of the Daleks, Genesis of the Daleks, Planet of Evil, The Deadly Assassin, and The Talons of Weng-Chiang.

He was also producer for the first two series of Blake's 7 and 1981's Day of the Triffids.

He can be heard in the commentaries in the recent DVD release of Genesis of the Daleks as well as previously released DVDs of Talons of Weng-Chiang and The Mind Robber. With a respectable body of work, he has left his mark on Doctor Who without a doubt.

Read more about it here: BBC - Horror master Maloney dies.

One of the most often asked questions here at the Gallifreyan Embassy since Doctor Who has returned to television has been asking about a new soundtrack album featuring the music of Murray Gold. The BBC have now announced a new soundtrack in the works featuring music from the new series.

"BBC Worldwide are working with the composer to release the highlights from his Doctor Who scores on CD."

Finally, a Song for Ten --- ten million plus fans that is...

Single Set Series 1 DVD's due out in fall  View Printable Version

Doctor Who NewsAccording to the website TVShowsonDVD.com, the BBC will be releasing Series 1 of Dcotor Who as 4 single disc releases on November 7th for Region 1. Disc 1 will feature the episodes Rose, The End of the World and the Unquiet Dead. Disc 2 will feature Aliens of London, World World 3 and Dalek. Disc 3 will have The Long Game, Father's Day, Empty Child and The Doctor Dances. Disc 4 will have Boom Town, Bad Wolf and the Parting of the Ways.

None of these bare bones releases will have the confidentials and does not look like commentaries either, but I could be wrong about the commentary. So if you want the confidentials, cut down as they are you will have to buy the full box set.

This is interestingly enough it looks like reverse to how the BBC released the episodes in the UK with the single editions (vanilla I beleives they are called) first and then the season set afterwards. Talk about doing things in reverse. You can see cover shots for some of the DVD's on the website mentioned.

    Cheers,
    Russel

...Well, to one big screen at least.

The Odeon theater in Cardiff will be showing the 2006 series finale, Doomsday on their big screen next Saturday and people will have the opportunity to see it for FREE. 100 people are being invited to see the showing in what is being billed as a "Doctor Who viewing extravaganza" at the Odeon multiplex, Red Dragon Centre, Cardiff Bay.

To be one of the 100 people to get a free ticket, you will have to visit the Doctor Who exhibition in the Red Dragon Centre, Cardiff Bay and bring a copy of the icWales newspaper on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

There will also be raffle for paying visitors which will result in 50 pairs of tickets given out to the winners for the 5:30pm showing the following Sunday (please note, according to icWales, they are stating Sunday, the 8th of July... but the 8th is a Saturday, and the Sunday is the 9th. So it must be typo).

For more details, see the icWales article here: See Dr Who finale on the big screen.
