mornings in the late seventies, if I recall correctly. Tom Baker was the Doctor
in those episodes. I believe I saw Robot first. I then lost track of Doctor Who
until one summer I was flipping the UHF dial an chanced upon a broadcast of
a curious show from a Connecticut PBS station either 19 or 20 on the dial, I
forget. It seemed cool, and oddly familiar, though I was watching it through
the snow of poor reception. It turned out to be episode 4 of the Cave of
Androzani, and in one short episode I tripled my exposure of Doctors as
Colin Baker replaced Peter Davison. At that point I was hooked, and would
watch almost every PBS broadcast that my television could catch, usually ch.
31 in NYC and ch. 21 from Garden City, which would play single episodes,
and on ch. 50 from Montclair, NJ, which would play the stories in movie
format on Saturday evenings, except for splitting up the longer stories.
Eventually, I was exposed to the three earlier Doctors and finally Sylvester
McCoy. I remember how difficult it was to get news of Doctor Who until I
discovered Doctor Who Magazine in the racks at Forbidden Planet...
