Arise, Sir Doctor...

BBC - Doctor Who - Thu, 12/31/2015 - 8:22am

John Hurt, who so memorably played the War Doctor in 2013, has received a knighthood in the New Year Honours.

John Hurt first appeared in Doctor Who during the final, electrifying moments of The Name of the Doctor before making a cameo appearance in The Night of the Doctor. He later starred alongside Matt Smith and David Tennant in the show’s 50th anniversary special, the feature-length adventure, The Day of the Doctor. The veteran actor received his knighthood for services to drama after a career lasting more than five decades.

James Corden, who played Craig in The Lodger and Closing Time, is awarded an OBE for services to drama and said he was ‘thrilled, overwhelmed and honoured to be recognised in such a way’, adding ‘My mum is already fretting about what to wear!’

Meera Syal has also been recognised in the New Year Honours and becomes a CBE. Well-known to Doctor Who fans for playing Dr Nasreen Chaudhry in The Hungry Earth and Cold Blood, she’s recognised for services to drama and literature.

Congratulations to John Hurt, James Corden and Meera Syal!

15 Reasons why the TARDIS is Frankly Magnificent

BBC - Doctor Who - Thu, 07/23/2015 - 7:53am

In no particular order, here are 15 things we love about the famous blue box…

Size matters…

It’s bigger on the inside. Or smaller on the outside. Take your pick.

You must enable javascript to play content require(['smp'], function(SMP) { new SMP({"container":"#smp-14380695087678","pid":"p01322z9","playerSettings":{"delayEmbed":true,"externalEmbedUrl":"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p01322z9\/player"}}); }); Wardrobe Room

It’s got the ultimate built-in wardrobe that’s chocka with awesome clothes. And, no. We don’t talk about the Sixth Doctor’s jacket.

That wheezing/groaning noise it makes.

That sound brings hope wherever it goes. Well, we like to think so.

It’s TARDIS blue.

It’s got a gorgeous paint job. If it ever changed colour we’d feel, err, blue.

It can go anywhere in the universe…

You thought your bus local bus route was pretty extensive? Pah!

It was in Doctor Who from day one.

Humans come and go but the Doctor and the TARDIS are joined at the (s)hip.

You must enable javascript to play content require(['smp'], function(SMP) { new SMP({"container":"#smp-14380695087695","pid":"p0111n71","playerSettings":{"delayEmbed":true,"externalEmbedUrl":"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p0111n71\/player"}}); }); It’s not got a flight deck.

Pretty much every other spaceship ever has a flight deck. They are so last century. No, the TARDIS has a console room and it’s beautiful.

It can change the weather…

So the Doctor wants to show off and make somewhere look more Christmassy? Snow problem!

The cloister bell.

The bell that tolls to denote imminent doom. Every other ship has an annoying, blarey alarm that makes you want to punch whoever designed it (not really) but the TARDIS has a classy warning… If you’re heading into unspeakable danger, at least do it in style.

It’s a bit of a diva…

Sure, it gave Clara a hard time and was pretty petulant in The Doctor’s Wife but we love a bit of sass. A ship with no attitude? Where’s the fun in that?

Roundels

Not got a clue what they’re for, but we love ’em.

It has these hologrammy things that can talk to you.

And when you least expect it they look you in the eye, give a killer line and send shivers shivering down your spine. ‘Have a fantastic life…’

It has a swimming pool

Insert your own joke here about TARDIS intruders being out of their depth.

It doesn't always take the Doctor where he wants to go…

But it always takes him where he needs to go.

By the way, did we mention it also travels in time?

20 things we learnt in the past fortnight…

BBC - Doctor Who - Thu, 07/16/2015 - 8:19am

The past couple of weeks has seen Doctor Who-land hit by a hurricane of information. The latest trailer, behind the scenes videos, interviews, Comic Con and press releases have been a great source of info about the new series and the people that make it, so we rounded up 20 of our fave facts from the fortnight…

1. There’s a global Zygon uprising in the new series. We know nothing more about it at this point, except it sounds epic. And awesome.

2. We learnt when Peter Capaldi truly felt he was the Doctor. ‘I think it was when they threw a rubber spider in my face and said, Fight it!’

3. Steven Moffat thinks Horror of Fang Rock is ‘really cool’. (He’s dead right. It’s brilliant).

4. The Daleks are back! We’d known about Missy and the Zygons returning to menace mankind again, but the trailer gave us a brief sneak peek of the exterminators! Eek!

5. Rachel Talalay, who directed Dark Water/Death in Heaven, is also helming eps 11 and 12 of the new series. In this video she told us, ‘these episodes [the series 9 finale] are completely different to what I did last year…’

6. The Doctor plays the guitar!

7. For Jenna Coleman, one of the best things about being Clara… is Peter Capaldi. ‘I just want to say how much I love Peter Capaldi,’ she told the Comic Con audience, with Peter sat right beside her. ‘One of the best bits about doing the job is going to work every day in the TARDIS with this guy!’

8. The Doctor looks great in shades. Okay, we might have suspected it, but the trailer delivers the proof. Doctor + shades = good look.

9. The new series features deadly mercenaries called the Mire, creepy underwater bases and Viking villages.

10. Peter Capaldi believes the Doctor wants to keep it in the family. ‘He loves traveling with Clara… The special bond he has is with Clara but I think he’d like to see his granddaughter again.’

11. According to Michelle Gomez, Missy’s perfect day would start with a cup of tea and possibly a small croissant. Then she’d slap Wonder Woman across the face.

12. According to Jenna Coleman, Clara’s perfect day would involve teaching Jane Austen, saving the world, having a cup of tea with the Doctor and getting an early night.

13. In the new episodes, Clara will help the Doctor ‘interact’ with humans, helping the Time Lord brush up on his social skills.

14. Steven Moffat has no problem (in theory) with a Doctor Who / Sherlock crossover. Cue lots of crossover puns / bad gags. We’ll start you off with it being set on (Tom) Baker Street…

15. You shouldn’t call the Doctor a guy. ‘The Doctor’s mysterious!’ Peter Capaldi stressed. ‘He’s a Time Lord! He’s not a guy!’

16. The TARDIS has got some cool, new roundels.

17. The orange space suits are back! First seen in The Impossible Planet. Last seen in Kill the Moon. The ultimate onesies make a welcome return!

18. There’s something going on between the Doctor and Maisie Williams’ character. When she shows her face the Doctor reacts with an aghast, ‘You?’ and she replies, ‘What took you so long, old man?

19. ‘Episode 11 is one of the most complicated…’ director Rachel Talalay revealed. ‘I can’t tell you anything about it except but it’s completely different and it just has my head in spaghetti!’

20. And finally, now we all know what we’ll be doing on Saturday, 19 September…

The Doctor Who / Sherlock Crossover: Where We’re At

BBC - Doctor Who - Thu, 07/16/2015 - 8:16am

It’s a little known fact that Doctor Who’s showrunner, Steven Moffat, is one of the creative forces behind Sherlock. And by ‘little known fact’ we mean everyone’s aware of it. And so several times a day, people suggest to Steven Moffat that he writes a Doctor Who / Sherlock crossover in which the tec meets the Time Lord. We bet he loves this.

The idea was put to him at Comic Con and his take was clear. ‘For the record… I have no problem with the idea of them meeting.’

Steven also reflected how the two iconic figures would deal with each other. ‘They’re very different. I’m not sure how well they’d get on…’ And asked how the Doctor would react to Holmes, Peter Capaldi’s answer was a simple, ‘More cleverly…’

So, Steven Moffat wouldn’t have a problem with the TARDIS landing on Baker Street! Hurrah! But at this stage, we can’t confirm that K-9 is being brought out of retirement to play the lead in a crossover based on The Hound of the Baskervilles…

What did Comic Con tell us about the New Series?

BBC - Doctor Who - Thu, 07/16/2015 - 8:06am

The whole hoopla of San Diego Comic Con is over for another year and our thoughts turn to 19 September and the return of Doctor Who!

Last week we had the new trailer and the airdate for series 9, and after we watched the trailer 400 times we took another look at the Doctor Who panel… In effect this was Peter Capaldi, Jenna Coleman, Michelle Gomez and Steven Moffat trying not to tell us anything about the new series. You know the kind of thing – nervous looks to Steven, wry smiles and repeated use of the word spoilers - but we did manage to pick out a few interesting gems…

Jenna Coleman gave us a glimpse of what’s to come: ‘It’s our glory years! It’s really adrenaline-fuelled and all about living in the moment and pushing the adventure right up to the edge!’ Adventure right up to the edge? We like, we like! And what about the Doctor and Clara? ‘They’ve found their groove and they’re very united in the TARDIS, eating up all of time and space with reckless abandon.’ Reckless abandon? We like, we like! And we’ll stop doing that now.

She also said that Clara wants to ‘hang out with my best mate in the TARDIS!’ Well, who wouldn’t, given half a chance?

Peter Capaldi echoed Jenna’s thoughts. ‘I think because Clara and the Doctor feel more in a groove, they are really enjoying being the luckiest people in all of history because they get to play with this immense toy box… They throw themselves recklessly into the pursuit of adventure! Which is lovely, that’s a whole different tone.’

That all ties in within something executive producer Brian Minchin recently revealed: ‘This year he [the Doctor] is having the time of his life, having dangerous and exciting adventures in time and space. These are the glory days of the Doctor and Clara.’

This sounds to us like the whole ‘am I a good man?’ question has been answered and our heroes are moving onto new adventures. That leaves the Doctor and Clara free to do what they do best. Jigsaw puzzles! Only joking. No holds barred adventures, which brings us to… Missy!

We knew she was back but showrunner Steven Moffat teased us about how exactly she’d be returning. ‘The way Missy comes back into his life is not something you’re probably going to predict.’ Intriguing. Michelle Gomez confirmed, ‘She has to come at it from a different angle which is surprising and exciting… There’s something that’s slightly different about her…’

Concerned she’ll be changing too much? Don’t be. ‘Don’t worry!’ Steven Moffat said with a smile. ‘She’s still as vile and psychopathic as ever!’ Great. We wouldn’t want her any other way!

First up – the Doctor looks more chilled, doesn’t he? Cool shades, big smiles, huge hug for Clara and wanting to kiss something to death. And he’s rocking that guitar! Can’t wait to see him on Saturday, 19 September: the day the Doctor returns to BBC One!

Clara looks to have been thrown right into the thick of the action again. What do we think she’s hiding from?

And the orange spacesuits are back! We reckon right now she’s wondering, ‘Exactly how bad can it get?!?’

LOTS of new monsters, with some crazy new faces – or even two-faces…

And a scary looking guy with a sinister face, black hat and a purposeful walk. A walk that suggests he’s up to no good and he’s up to it with some urgency.

And check out the – ahem – unusual looking figure the Doctor comes face-to-face with. We’re also curious about this guy. How does he fit in with the new series?

The Daleks are back! The Doctor’s oldest and most iconic enemies glide back into his life but which episode(s) do you think they’ll be sticking their eyestalks into? And perhaps more importantly, What’s behind it? Yeah, looks like it’s a… Which is curious!

We love the cinematic scale of the trailer… Doctor Who has always been big, but now it’s in a different dimension!!!

We already knew that Missy was returning but it looks like she’s facing-off with Clara. Given that the self-proclaimed ‘Queen of Evil’ was responsible for the death of Clara’s boyfriend we’d like to be a fly on the wall for that showdown. Actually. We can be! Saturday, 19 September… Did we mention that?

And on the subject of the Doctor’s ‘best enemy’, is that fear we can see in her eyes? And if so, what on Earth – or wherever – can scare Missy?

Just in case the Zygons weren’t evil enough (in the past they’ve tried to steal our planet and they were very mean to Clara) they’re now picking on small children. Thank goodness Osgood will be there for their adventure, but hold on… No Osgood in the trailer. Could that be significant?

Those two lines from the Doctor were interesting. ‘I’m the Doctor and I save people!’ should be on his business card but we’re much more intrigued by his opening words: ‘Every time I think it couldn’t get any more extraordinary it surprises me. It’s impossible, I hate it, it’s evil, it’s astonishing… I want to kiss it to death!’ Who or what is the Time Lord talking about? Answers and ideas to the usual twitter address, please…

And finally, it’s Game of Thrones star, Maisie Williams! *Applause* Sometimes on a trailer you get a must-watch-again-immediately moment and this is another one of those. There’s just something intriguing and exciting with this exchange… What do you think the deal is with Maisie’s character and the Doctor?

Give us your reaction to the new trailer and don’t forget, Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Saturday, 19 September… And now, well now we’re off to WATCH THE TRAILER AGAIN!!!…

5 times Daleks have broken our hearts…

BBC - Doctor Who - Thu, 07/09/2015 - 4:31pm

The Daleks return in the new series, which is cool – to a point. We can deal with them trying to exterminate anything that moves and we’re fine with them zooming through the air like they’re trying to collect frequent flier points. But please, for the love of the Doctor, no more breaking our hearts! Here’s a roll call of heart-breaking moments so far…

The whole Oswin is a Dalek thing

We liked Oswin. A lot. The whole soufflé, cheeky, helping the Doctor thing was ace. Then it turns out she’s a Dalek. A Dalek in a red dress. Didn’t see that one coming.

Exterminating Lynda with a ‘y’

She was so sweet. Then she was so dead. Lynda with a why, why, why?

Shooting the Doctor in the middle of his big reunion with Rose

We’d waited ages for them to get back together, only for a Dalek to ruin it with the biggest gooseberry moment in world history. Thanks for that.

Shooting Captain Jack

It was back in the days before Jack kept coming back to life so when he was shot, we’ll admit it – it hurt.

Rusty

He pointed out the Doctor’s faults (surely that’s Clara’s job?) and then went off to fight his fellow Daleks, alone. Can’t help feel sorry for that old Rusty rebel.

This September, the Doctor and Clara Return with Electrifying Adventures on BBC One

BBC - Doctor Who - Thu, 07/09/2015 - 4:30pm

Exploding with epic and thrilling adventures, Doctor Who returns to BBC One on Saturday 19 September in the ninth series of the hit show.

The Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is joined by Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) for time travel on a cinematic scale. Having the time of their lives, the pair meets new and old monsters, and go on a journey that takes them to deadly alien planets, creepy underwater bases, Vikings villages, a global Zygon uprising, and leads them through hidden alien dens, to the very end of time itself.

Meeting monsters old and new the Doctor will come face to face with Missy (played by Michelle Gomez), a city of Daleks, deadly mercenaries called the Mire, terrifying ghosts and far more.

Having filmed in Cardiff since January, Peter Capaldi said, “Soaring through all of time and space, series nine sees the Doctor throw himself into life with a new hunger for adventure. The Cosmos is there for the taking, thrilling, epic and enticing, and his to play in. But he’s almost reckless in his abandon. It’s almost like he’s running from something, something that if it ever catches him will turn his life upside down.”

Previously announced and taking up a guest role in the new series will be young new talent Maisie Williams, having already achieved global success for her role as Arya Stark in the fantasy drama series Game of Thrones. Michelle Gomez (Missy) returns to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener, and UNIT are back with Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver (Osgood) returning to series nine following their popular entrance in series eight. Also confirmed as guest cast in the series are Rebecca Front, Rufus Hound, Paul Kaye, Joivan Wade and Sophie Stone.

The show’s ninth series has been written by lead writer Steven Moffat, Toby Whithouse, Jamie Mathieson, Peter Harness, Mark Gatiss, and new writers to Doctor Who - Sarah Dollard and Catherine Tregenna; directed by Hettie Macdonald, Daniel O’Hara, Ed Bazalgette, Daniel Nettheim, Justin Molotnikov, Rachel Talalay; and produced by Tracie Simpson, Derek Ritchie, Nikki Wilson and Peter Bennett.

The star-studded cast continue to shoot in Roath Lock studios, Cardiff Bay, having previously filmed in Tenerife, and south Wales locations, Caerwent, Caerphilly Castle, Cardiff Castle, St Athans and Margam Park.

Doctor Who has had a decade of success and is one BBC One’s most highly regarded shows. The much-loved brand is already a phenomenon delivering on a global scale, with the last series’ (series 8) consolidated average at 7.4 million.

Doctor Who is a BBC Cymru Wales production for BBC One and will be back on-air this September.

Series 9: Everything You Need To Know

BBC - Doctor Who - Wed, 07/08/2015 - 8:08am

The new series of Doctor Who begins Saturday, 19 September and sees the return of the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara (Jenna Coleman). The 12 episode run contains a number of two-parters and is executive produced by showrunner Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin.

Check out the new trailer and unlock its secrets

These new stories see the Doctor and Clara having the best time as they continue their travels. As Peter Capaldi commented, ‘They’ve suddenly realised that they are the most fortunate people in all of time and space and are hell-bent on adventure.’ As for the Doctor, Peter revealed, ‘He’s in pursuit of joy and grabbing every thrill that he can along the way. But I sense him running from something, that even he does not yet understand…’

Episodes 1 and 2: The Magician’s Apprentice / The Witch’s Familiar

Written by Steven Moffat
Directed by Hettie Macdonald
Produced by Peter Bennett
Guest cast includes Michelle Gomez as Missy, Jemma Redgrave as Kate, Kelly Hunter, Clare Higgins and Jaye Griffiths.

It’s the return of Missy, as Steven Moffat has teased, ‘Everybody hide - Michelle Gomez as Missy was an instant hit last year, so she’s straight back to plague the Doctor and Clara in the series opener. But what brings her back into their lives is the last thing they’d expect…’ Michelle Gomez announces her return in style in this video:

The adventure was the second story to be filmed and included a location shoot in Tenerife. You can take a sneak peek at the overseas action here:

Written by Toby Whithouse
Directed by Daniel O’Hara
Produced by Derek Ritchie
Guest cast includes Paul Kaye, Morven Christie, Arsher Ali, Colin McFarlane, Sophie Stone, Zaqi Ismail, Steven Robertson and Neil Fingleton.

Toby Whithouse has written some of the show’s most memorable episodes including School Reunion, The Vampires of Venice and The God Complex but his first two-parter may be his most chilling story to date. Steven Moffat called it ‘brilliantly creepy… one of our scariest adventures yet!’

Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones) makes his Doctor Who debut and enthused, ‘As a kid of the 1970s, the two shows you always watched were Top of the Pops and Doctor Who, they were unmissable… I got to present TOTP back in the mid ’90s and landing this role in Doctor Who completes the dream double.’

Filming on the adventure began in early January, 2015 and it was the first of the new series to be shot.

Episode 5: The Girl Who Died

Written by Jamie Mathieson and Steven Moffat
Directed by Ed Bazalgette
Produced by Derek Ritchie
Guest cast includes Maisie Williams.

Maisie Williams is best-known for playing Arya Stark in Game of Thrones and is a three-time Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee. On her first day on set she told us, ‘I'm so excited to be working on Doctor Who as it’s such a big and important part of British culture.’ But who is she playing in Doctor Who?

Steven Moffat remained tight-lipped. ‘It’s not possible to say too much about who or what she’s playing, but she is going to challenge the Doctor in very unexpected ways.’ He added, ‘This time he might just be out of his depth, and we know Maisie is going to give him exactly the right sort of hell.’

The episode is co-written by Steven Moffat and Jamie Mathieson, who previously penned Mummy on the Orient Express and Flatline. Along with episode 6 (see below) this formed the third filming block, meaning the fifth and sixth episodes were shot sequentially. It’s therefore uncertain whether the monsters glimpsed above and immediately below will appear in The Girl Who Died, the following adventure or both!

Episode 6: The Woman Who Lived

Written by Catherine Tregenna
Directed by Ed Bazalgette
Produced by Derek Ritchie
Guest cast includes Rufus Hound as Sam Swift.

Although we know very little about Sam Swift, we’re hoping that Rufus didn’t shave off this magnificent beard when it came to the shoot! He was delighted to appear in the show, admitting he was ‘pretty ruddy happy’ moments after the read-through for his episode. You can see the full interview in the video below.

You must enable javascript to play content require(['smp'], function(SMP) { new SMP({"container":"#smp-14380695088089","pid":"p02q3gsl","playerSettings":{"delayEmbed":true,"externalEmbedUrl":"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p02q3gsl\/player"}}); });

It’s Catherine Tregenna’s first script for Doctor Who but fans may remember her four episodes of Torchwood - Out of Time, Captain Jack Harkness, Meat and Adam.

Episodes 7 and 8: Titles TBC

Written by Peter Harness
Directed by Daniel Nettheim
Produced by Peter Bennett
Guest cast includes Jemma Redgrave, Ingrid Oliver, Jaye Griffiths, Rebecca Front, Cleopatra Dickens, Sasha Dickens, Abhishek Singh, Todd Kramer, Jill Winternitz, Nicholas Asbury, Jack Parker, Aidan Cook… and the Zygons!

Ingrid Oliver returns as Osgood? Hurrah! Wait a minute… Wasn’t she killed by Missy in Death in Heaven? Even Ingrid had been fooled… ‘I was so sure Osgood was a goner after the last series!’ she revealed, ‘As every actor who’s worked on Doctor Who will tell you, there’s always the secret hope you'll get the call asking you to come back. To actually receive that call is both unexpected and brilliant. The word ‘honour’ gets banded about a lot, but it really is, it’s an honour.’ You can see Ingrid talking (and dancing) about her return in the videos below…

Jemma Redgrave revealed Kate was back in this video…

The BAFTA winning Rebecca Front also joins the guest cast for the adventure and when the news broke about her involvement she tweeted, ‘Work with Peter Capaldi again? In Doctor Who? Hell yeah...’

And finally, last seen in The Day of the Doctor, the Zygons will be crossing the Time Lord’s path again in this two-parter which is written by Peter Harness (Kill the Moon).

Episode 9: Everything TBC

Basically it’s not even started filming yet so there’s nothing to see here! Still shrouded in mystery – watch this space!

Episode 10: Title TBC

Written by Sarah Dollard
Directed by Justin Molotnikov
Produced by Nikki Wilson
Guest cast includes Joivan Wade as Rigsy.

The episode sees the return of Joivan Wade as Rigsy, the young graffiti artist who helped save the world in Flatline. After finishing filming for the episode, Joivan tweeted, ‘And that’s a Wrap! On @bbcdoctorwho episode 10! I've had an amazing time! Can't wait for the series!’

The episode is written by Sarah Dollard who admitted, ‘Getting to play in the Doctor Who toy box is a dream come true. It’s a total honour to contribute to a show that has brought me such joy as a fan. However, writing for Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman has presented a serious problem: some days I've been too excited to actually sit down and type!’ You can see a brief interview with Sarah below:

You must enable javascript to play content require(['smp'], function(SMP) { new SMP({"container":"#smp-14380695088115","pid":"p02tcf16","playerSettings":{"delayEmbed":true,"externalEmbedUrl":"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p02tcf16\/player"}}); }); Episodes 11 and 12: Titles TBC

Written by Steven Moffat
Directed by Rachel Talalay
Produced by Peter Bennett

Details for the big finale are sparse at the moment and although writer Steven Moffat has promised us a very special cliff-hanger for episode 11, he wouldn’t be drawn on any plot points.
We know that Rachel Talalay, who helmed last year’s Dark Water/Death in Heaven, is back in the director’s chair. ‘These episodes are completely different to what I did last year…’ she told us. ‘Episode 11 is one of the most complicated and different episodes I’ve ever done… It just has my head in spaghetti!’ Hear more in the interview below…

You must enable javascript to play content require(['smp'], function(SMP) { new SMP({"container":"#smp-14380695088119","pid":"p02whnlh","playerSettings":{"delayEmbed":true,"externalEmbedUrl":"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/p02whnlh\/player"}}); });

So, the new series is edging closer and it promises to be extraordinary. ‘There is an epic sweep to this season and I think the villains and monsters reflect that,’ Peter Capaldi observed. ‘Great new ones, brilliant old ones, and some very scary creatures looming in stories with real emotional ambition.’

Series 9 will be a hell of a journey… The Doctor and Clara are out for adventure in episodes mixing drama, humour, excitement and enchantment. Frankly, we can’t wait for The Magician’s Apprentice to cast its spell.

Doctor Who: The Top Ten Spaceships

BBC - Doctor Who - Thu, 07/02/2015 - 9:52am

We’re joining in with UFO Day the only way we know how – by celebrating 10 of the coolest crafts ever seen in the Doctor Who. So, we’re presenting the ships that put the ‘Oh!’ into UFO in no particular order, except number 1, of course…

The Judoon Fleet

We’re trying to think of a word that rhymes with Judoon, platoon and moon and means spaceship. Let us know if you’ve got any ideas.

The Jack Shack

That’s what we’re calling the Captain’s craft from The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances. We just like the way he used it to schmooze Rose Tyler – shipping on a ship!

Dalek Ships

They may be a race of homicidal hate machines but let’s be fair, their rides look awesome.

The Silurian Ark

Think Jurassic Park in space. With its own beach. And a robot that sounds like those blokes off Peepshow.

The Genesis Ark

A prison ship that looked elegant and could hold thousands of Daleks. We have to say it: this jailhouse rocks.

The Orient Express in Space

Ten out of ten for style and on board entertainment, but minus several million for safety levels.

The Christmas Star

It may have been the campest craft in creation but we still don’t trust Mr Saxon for ordering its destruction. You want to watch him…

The SS Madame de Pompadour

It may have home to a bunch of clockwork killers but it also had a horse wandering around its corridors, so it must have been a stable environment. (Sorry).

The Titanic

Why not create a spacecraft that resembles - and is named after - a ship that came to symbolise disaster? Great idea! What could possibly go wrong?

The TARDIS

The number one craft for the 52nd year in succession. It’s the Doctor’s ‘frankly magnificent’ time machine… It may look a little boxy on the outside but… Oh, you know the rest…
