John Simm in "Speaking in Tongues" in London

Dear John Simm:

I loved you in "Life on Mars," adored you as The Master, but, buddy, you were really awesome in this play. Which wasn't very good.  And I was sitting in the front row fearing for my life because Ian Hart almost beat an audience member up a few nights before for allegedly talking during the show.  But you were great and it was worth it. Next time, pick a better play.  I'll be there, in the front row, savoring every minute of it.

Best,

Amy

Daily Variety Review of "Collision"

I believe this is going to be on "Masterpiece Contemporary" this Sunday in the US - David Tennant and Paul McGann, together at last! - but I've seen it.  Pretty much your bog-standard ITV prime-time soap, but great actors and good performances.

Back from Beijing!

Beijing!: MyAnna Buring, Sarah Douglas, Simon Thorp, Andrew PleavinBeijing!: MyAnna Buring, Sarah Douglas, Simon Thorp, Andrew PleavinHello, after a long silence.  Sure you all missed me!! Cool

What you might not know is that, in between postings, I occasionally (too occasionally...) work as a producer. My latest and greatest just wrapped in Beijing, China.  We had a great cast, including MyAnna Buring, whom you might know from "The Impossible Planet" and "Lesbian Vampire Killers."  Me was AWESOME - she really kicks ass in the film. Can't say much about it yet as we're under orders from SyFy, but that should be enough to let you find us on the 'net.  I'm sure Me wouldn't mind if I posted a pic of her here...  There she is, with fellow thespians Sarah Douglas ("Superman"), Andrew Pleavin ("300") and Simon Thorp ("Jekyll").

And, for another shameless plug, the film I executive produced but never set foot on set is airing soon.  See the trailer on YouTube below.

Please watch it (we need good ratings!) and let me know what you think of it!

Video Release Information in Video Business

Video Business is a trade publication for producers and distributors of video product, primarily in the US.  It's a publication from the same people who publish Variety, the entertainment industry trade paper.  I used to work for a distributor, and I still get this electronically - it's always interesting to read to see what the trends are.  And sometimes there's cool stuff too!  Here's an announcement about "The Next Doctor."

I'll let you know if I find anything else of interest.

We like Johnny Depp 'cause Johnny Depp likes Withnail!

We love Gugu M'Batha-Raw (Martha's sister) too - she played Ophelia in this Donmar production of "Hamlet." I hope they let her appear in the Broadway transfer.  It will never come to LA, though.  Which sucks:

If I Didn't Love Charlie Ross, I'd Hate His Guts

Charlie Ross and Captain Kirk

Those of you in the UK who attend 10th Planet events will undoubtedly recognize the chap on the left - it's Charlie Ross, convention interviewer extraordinaire, who also emcees the cabarets and does his hilarious Who-based stand-up there.  Charlie is also a writer, and we've optioned one of his scripts. He's out from Glasgow for meetings this week, and I scored tickets for us to the last preview of "Farragut North" at the Geffen Playhouse.  Naturally, I was too busy to go, so Charlie and Mark (my producing partner) were treated to Mr. Big and Captain Kirk in the flesh while I slaved over a hot budget.  Here's some photographic evidence.  I am considering throwing Charlie out on the street as I write this.

"Who" and "Torchwood" on BBC Radio 4

As previously mentioned, I listen to a lot of BBC Radio on the iPlayer.  I signed up for the Radio 4 Newsletter (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/newsletter/ ) and got this today:

Paul McGann in "Helen" at the Globe Theatre in London

My advice to anyone who's in the UK during the run is GO!  It's always interesting seeing these guys on stage; completely different medium.  McGann has done theatre in the past but not often, so grab the opportunity if you can!  The Globe is also a very cool place to see a play.  Have a drink at the Anchor, just a bit east of the theatre, and sit where Samuel Pepys sat, watching London burn during the Great Fire of 1666.

A Quick "Hello" and a Guide to Audible.com!

Just a quick "hello" to everyone and a big thank you to Louis and the guys for trusting me with this honor!

If you've heard the podcast I was lucky enough to participate in, you might know that I work in the film industry, and, after a horrible year, I've got a few projects that have come to the fore that are keeping me very busy.  So, this will have to be brief.

I just wanted to elaborate on the Audible.com info Ken and the guys have been giving on the podcasts recently. I've been a subscriber for years and years (I drive over 20,000 miles a year here in LA!) and have discovered lots of books beyond the Who range that might be of interest.  You probably know that Paul McGann and Tom Baker, particularly, have done a lot of audio books and radio drama between them, and some of them are available on Audible
