iTunes

Hi, in our podcast we pretty much cut all the frills and jump right into our review/discussion of that given week.  We pretty much stay on top of just about every major Sci-fi television show & movie that plays over here in the US. Cat w/her sidekick Eric host the show. We have our usual cast of recurring characters, erm... contributers, but also welcome newbies on any given day as that was the original premise of the podcast.

On occasion we will feature an "After Party" episode which is just bonus spontaneous discussions we have after the formal recording of a proper episode.

Sci-Fi Party Line #39 Sarah Jane Adventures & Doctor Who

In this episode we talk about David Tennant's guest appearance in the Sarah Jane Adventures episode 'The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith.' We rip into the released clip of the animated Doctor Who micro serial Dreamland. We collectively shake our heads at the Doctor Who special 'Planet of the Dead,' but look forward to 'Waters of Mars.' We express concerns and expectations of the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith. Our discussion concludes with talk of Torchwood's fate. We briefly touch on some of the classics as well.

We are honored to have Louis Trapani of Podshock, the longest running Doctor Who podcast, as our special guest on this episode.

Sci-Fi Party Line #41.1 The Minute Waters of Mars

Here is a 1 minute version of Sci-Fi Party Line #41 The Waters of Mars.

Recently, friend of the show: The Cyber Testicle Podcast put a call out for anyone to submit their own 1 minute reviews of Doctor Who: WoM and because it was too difficult for us to come up with something completely original this was the result.

As we don't have a proper promo for our show yet, this is the next best thing to get the gist of what we do here on our program. Please use it as you see fit.

Cyber Testicle's own (hilarious) 1 minute WoM review can be found here. Be warned: it contains explicit language.

Hello! What's all this then? I had dismissed this whole New Moon thing as just a sequel to a teen vampire flick... Now... Hmmm.. I may have to see this sometime after all. I am assuming this is one of the vampires in the film?

Interesting.

Hmm...

Err.. OK, now back to Doctor Who. LOL.

Cheers,
Louis

NEW MOON was better than TWLIGHT, at least the movie versions and there ARE lots of shirtless guys.

Today we discuss the technology in James Cameron's Avatar. We talk about everything from marines to mad scientists, mech suits to alien ships and ducted fans to chopper blades. We even compare unobtainium to Stargate's naquadah (a name we couldn't figure out in the episode). There's also talk of Star Trek vs. Avatar.

The crew is Phineas (@phineas_henshaw), Carl (@robotcast) and Cat (@fancyfembot).

This episode contains 10 ft tall SPOILERS with carbon fiber reinforced bones. The show closes out with audio from the 'security briefing' scene.

Sci-Fi After Party #45a Dances with Na'vi

Welcome to the After Party! The Avatar discussion continues from where it left off in Sci-Fi Party Line #45. The crew remains intact and consists of Ryan (@Oddernod), Will (@LW_Will), Eric (@Bullitt33), and Cat (@fancyfembot).

This episode contains highly speculative fiction from Eywa told to us via the songs of Mo'at. Playing out the show is Fell in Love with an Alien by The Kelly Family.

Dances with Wolves is a 1990 epic 2D film which tells the story of a Civil War era United States Army lieutenant who travels to the American frontier to found a military outpost, and his dealings/interrelationship with a group of Natives known as the Lakota.

by contrast...

Avatar is a 2009 epic 3D film which tells the story of a future era (2154) Marine veteran who travels to the Pandoran frontier to found a scientific outpost, and his dealings/interrelationship with a group of Na'vi known as the Omaticaya.

The events depicted in these movies are fictitious. Any similarity to any characters and/or situations portrayed in any other film is merely coincidental happenstance and as such warrant no further scrutiny.

The crew is Phineas (@phineas_henshaw), Carl (@robotcast), Eric (@Bullitt33), and Cat (@fancyfembot).

Playing out today's episode is the original classic Battlestar Galactica theme composed by Stu Phillips which can be found on the original 1978 BSG soundtrack. It features a narration, spoken by Patrick Macnee.

I just realized something crazy in the music. If you listen to that little riff during the original BSG theme (@ 1:04:55 in our podcast). I believe you can hear a connection to Starbuck's 'All along the Watchtower' piano rendition from new BSG series 4...

..Which was briefly featured in last night's (1.30.10) Caprica episode [s01e03 Rebirth] while Eric Stoltz's character Mr. Graystone is playing the piano. He plays a colorful version of the entire intro to the classic BSG theme.

"All this has happened before and will happen again."

It's been a seemingly long, arduous, painfully perplexing ride, but Dollhouse has finally come to an end. What did we think about the show as a whole and the recent finale? We'd like to tell you except that we opted to have our memories wiped, lest we remember this muddled FOX production. Instead, take a listen to our recorded opinions while we still had them.

Today's crew is Will (@LW_Will), Eric (@Bullitt33) and Cat (@fancyfembot).

After listening to this rather brief After Party it seemed a slight theme emerged. 1st we touch briefly on Caprica. Then we get into Law & Order UK. So what's the theme? Caprica is a sci-fi drama which tells the story of a family whose patriarch is a lawyer. Law & Order UK is a judicial procedural staring Jamie Bamber of BSGand Freema Agyemon from Doctor Who Lawyers from space.

Today's crew is Will (@LW_Will), Eric (@Bullitt33) and Cat (@fancyfembot).

Playing out today's episode is We are all connected performed by John Boswell which can be found on his album in progress Symphony of Science (@musicalscience). We previously featured his 1st SoS song back in Sci-Fi Party Line #32. This really cool documentary mash-up features the vocal stylings of these illustrious science & astronomy luminaries: Bill NyeCarl SaganRichard Feynman, and Neil deGrasse Tyson. Follow this link and you can download the song for free. There is a great complimentary YouTube video for the song which you can watch here. SMALLVILLE is another show that is just about unwatchable. How  a show set in such a universe and with at least five great seasons under its belt can be so awful now...and how such drivel could exist on tv is beyond me. It's so totally awful now I can't believe it IMO of course. Just make it SUPERMAN already! I mean the relationships, the dialog, the plots, the endings...so incredibly poor and boring...and upsetting...

Bullitt33's picture

Sort of with you on this 1, sort of not. I also started watching Smallville right from the start, but gave up and lost interest midway season 5. I couldn't take Lana getting together with Lex, too much for me to handle. But just recently I have decided to catch up with Smallville once again. In the process of marathoning (starting from yr 1, so much I'd forgotten) when I can. I'll let you know how it goes after I get caught up.

In today's Party Eric and Cat gush over arguably the greatest LOST episodes to date. I think we're allowed to have a little lovefest every once in a while, especially with such a juicy episode. Ab Aeterno gave us a little bit of everything: Answers, a love story, philosophy, immersive score, did we mention answers? All this plus an overall grand cinematic experience compacted into 1 hr of solid television.

This episode contains spoilers as we review & discuss: s06e08 Recon & primarily s06e09Ab Aeterno .

Disclaimer: Before we get 100 comments telling us how wrong we were -> In all our excitement we made 2 rather large factual blunders. Ok, maybe just Eric did. Oh, and Cat now has a crush on Richard Alpert (Nestor Carbonell).

  1. In his haste, Eric incorrectly states that Dogen speaks in his native Korean. WRONG, he's actually Japanese & his namesake is a famous medieval Japenese Buddhist monk.
  2. Once again, Eric is in a hurry when he says George Kirk (in Star Trek 2009) feels the pain of loosing his wife. Obviously that was the other way around.

Playing out today's epsiode is Labor of Love from the Star Trek 2009 soundtrack by Oscar winning composer Michael Giacchino. This song is very reminicent of a major theme used throughtout LOST season 5, especially during Juliet's big farewell scene at the end of The incident.

Today’s crew consists of Carl (@robotcast), Eric (@Bullitt33), and Cat (@fancyfembot). This episode contains spoilers from an alternate dimension. We go over Fringe season 2 up through the finale & we’re assuming you’re caught up to Doctor Who s05e06 The Vampires of Venice.

Playing out the show is the song ‘For Once in my Life’ as performed by the Olivia aka Anna Torvin Fringe s02e20 Brown Betty.

If you’d like to hear more WHO talk, Eric & Megan’s Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Whoverse review of ‘The Vampires of Venice’ can be found here: MHC #10 The Vampires of Venice 31.6

“Reality TV is the pork rinds of TV.”

Carl and Cat walk through the valley of the shadow of death of our favorite and not so favorite TV shows. Today we discuss the tragic demise of Legend of the Seeker and the “we saw it coming” cancellation of FlashForward. There are honorable mentions of Farscape, Jericho and Firefly. Cat kicks the dead carcass of Heroes and Carl admits the ending of Heroes was…. you’ll just have to listen.
