Doctor Who is on a billboard, on the sides of buses, and there are screenings in major cities throughout the country, featuring Matt Smith, Karen Gillan, and executive producer Steven Moffat. What country is this? It's got to be the UK, right?

WRONG!!!! It's the United States of America!

So what's changed? When the show was relaunched in 2005, and when David Tennant became the Doctor there was nothing. Well, that was when the show was on Sci-Fi. Now it's on BBC America, the show's natural home, and these people just get it! They know that the show can be a huge success - it's already the #1 show on the channel, and want the show to be even bigger!

BBC America are spending money to promote the show. I can't begin to describe how happy it made me when I saw the first bus ad go by while I was walking down a New York City street a couple of weeks ago! And it has just got better since then! There is an incredible amount of content on their website, and they are sending fan websites and groups in the USA links to lots of videos and images almost every day!

And then they announced the publicity tour with the stars of the show coming to New York City, doing events at the Paley Center for Media, the Apple Store in Soho, and the Village East Cinema, and then going on to the C2E2 convention in Chicago. I was lucky enough to get a ticket for the Paley Center event and will return with a full report next week. This is just fantastic support for the show, that has never been seen in the USA, not even in the 1980s heyday!

Of course, there is one grey cloud in all this wonderful promotion that our favorite show is receiving, and that is the limited availability of BBC America on the USA's cable networks - even in New York City the biggest media market in the nation, where many millions of households who can only get TV service from Cablevision, cannot watch the station because they refuse to carry it.

How can this be fixed? The simple answer is to contact your cable company and ask for BBC America. Do it by calling them, by emailing them, and, above all, by writing them a letter, with your account number, so they know that you are a dissatisfied customer because they do not carry this channel! Let them know....

I want to end on a positive note, though, and celebrate the attention Doctor Who is getting in the USA! This is fantastic, and brilliant, and wonderful! So thank you BBC America, for having faith in the show! If The Eleventh Hour is anything to go by, it is going to repay that faith in spades!

This is so true.  The Sci-fi Channel didn't do it justice and I fear that many people are starting to think of Syfy (as it is now called) as being relagated to the B-C-Monster Movie of The Week (which is sad).

BBC AMERICA, on the other hand, is doing a FANTASTIC and BRILLIANT job of carrying both Torchwood and Doctor Who.  I think we have the great ratings from Torchwood to thank for them picking up Doctor Who.  (Yes, I am amazed that they didn't carry it in the first place!)

To the future, BBC AMERICA!  Thank you and GERONIMMMOOOOOO!
