Happy Birthday Colin Baker
The 6th Doctor turns 66 today. The Gallifreyan Embassy and Doctor Who: Podshock wishes Colin Baker a happy birthday.
Colin had burst onto the Doctor Who scene taking over the lead role after Peter Davison stepped down in 1984 as the colourful and bold 6th Doctor. Although not his first association with Doctor Who, he had played Commander Maxil in the 5th Doctor story, Arc of Infinity. Blake's 7 fans will also know him as 'Bayban the Butcher' - a guest role he had in the series.
Unfortunately Colin's term as the Doctor was cut short by the powers that be at the time. He reprised the part again with the audio dramas from Big Finish, winning over even more fans. Speaking of fans, Colin has not turned his back on fans as he has made himself available for conventions over the years.
We had the privilege of interviewing Colin on a few occasions. To celebrate his birthday, we offer up an episode of Doctor Who: Podshock - Episode 58 from 2006 which includes an interview from our archives from 1987 (recorded in March 1987 on the Destinies radio show on WUSB 90.1 FM). In it, Colin discusses his premature departure from the role at that time.
Hosted by Ken Deep and Louis Trapani, with Mike Doran. With recorded guests: Colin Baker, Dr. Howard Margolin, Ralph Schiano, and "The Anti-Doctor".
