And so we lose another great actor who's appearances in Doctor Who are long and note worthy.

Philip Madoc died today Monday, 5th March after a short illness at the age of 77. His agent Michael Hallet said he passed away in hospital in Hertfordshire surrounded by his family.

His first TV appearance in Doctor Who was not as some might think, but as Eelek in the Krotons. But he certainly impressed the producers as he returned within the same season to play the Evil War Lord in Patrick Troughton's finale, The Wargames. He then went on to make two appearances along side Tom Baker in The Brain of Morbius and The Power of Kroll.

Even though this would be his last TV appearance in Doctor Who he went on to act in Big Finish's Master and The Return of the Krotons. Though because it's very much not concidered as canon his first real Doctor Who appearance was in the 1967 filmed remake of The Dalek Invasion of Earth. Alongside Peter Cushing, he played the unlikable Brockley the man who could obtain almost anything you asked for as long as you could pay the price.

Recently he had been working for BBC Radio 3 in an adaptation of King Lear, and also for the Welsh TV channel S4C.
