TEASER

Day: Steve and Fitzhugh, carrying a wire plug, hide at a fire hydrant from a giant policeman numbered 778 (Chip Morton). They cross a street, leaving the wire and hide in an abandoned storm drain. 778 reports this to a Dr. Kraal (Mr. Farnum) who wants the humans caught unharmed. Steve finds an exit right into the forest but it is blocked by rocks. The two men find an electric conduit plugged into the city main. Following it, leads them to a switch. Fitzhugh warns him not to throw it. Steve says, "Isn't that what switches are for?"  When Steve throws it, they find themselves in a well lit computer complex--all Earth sized instrumentation.

 

ACT ONE  


Fitzhugh and Steve look around the complex and hear Shepard Space Center in Brookside, Kentucky trying to contact 275 Exploration Team. Captain Ashim of the secret police and Kraal hear Steve try to contact the center back. Three years ago one little man escaped from them. Others of his group died under Kraal's experimentation with new methods--rather than tell Kraal about where the complex was. It almost cost both of them their jobs. Steve leaves to bring Mark back--warning Fitz not to try anything with the radio until he gets back with Wilson. They can receive but not send. Steve suspects it may be an elaborate giant hoax--a trap. He uses thrown rocks to avoid giant policemen searching for the transmitter---which Fitzhugh makes easier for the giants by sending messages against Steve's order. In Spindrift, they hear him. Steve calls him an idiot. Mark scrambles the message Fitz sends. He asks Barry for a portable jammer which Barry gets, "Here, Mr. Wilson."  Mark then turns the walkie talkies into portable transmitter jammers which the girls and Barry spread out through the forest--so as not to lead the giants to the spaceship---which if not jammed, they would find. Ashim was almost fired when Kraal killed the former group of Earth people. Kraal refers to the any little person as "it"  and doesn't really see it a crime if one or two of them die. Fitz finds a decayed body in the complex behind a console--he followed a microphone wire to it. He runs out into the daylight into Steve and Mark who usher him back inside. Using the wire, Mark finds a recording the dead man made, telling them about a 2 minute destruct level and recognizes some of the equipment, components of which as having been built in one of his own plants. 275 was caught in the same space warp Spindrift was. Fitzhugh and Steve dig through the dirt exit into the forest. Steve tells the others, Valerie telling him that at first the sound of the squealing was making her climb the trees but now she is starting to like it--it may mean a rescue party will be able to find them and get off this world. Steve alerts the others, finding Dan with a hurt shoulder which he hurt while running away from a security officer. One comes at them as they talk, taking them unaware! Suddenly, the spot him, towering over. 

 

ACT TWO

Steve diverts the giant for Dan to get away but is caught himself. Dan alerts a worried, caring Val, who asks too many questions for his liking. Steve tells Ashim he knows Ashim could crush him if he doesn't answer his questions--which he won't. Ashim then acts nicer, wanting only the transmitter. "I'm not telling you that,"  Steve insists. Dan gets Mark to go to Steve while Fitzhugh plays nursemaid to Dan's dislocated shoulder as an excuse to remain behind. Kraal tests his foam invention on a tough convict who tells them everything truthfully without straps on his chair to hold him in. He was planning to kill the guard with a hidden tool he made and escape. Kraal sprays some on Steve who falls against the books on Ashim's desk. The convict falls off the chair...and dies from the foam.

 

ACT THREE


Ashim leaves to wash some of the foam off his hands while Kraal supervises the removal of the dead convict. Mark, without any help from a brainwashed Steve, climbs up to him and tells him to tell Ashim the other members of his group are in the basement ready to blow up the security building. Ashim leaves again to check on this and Mark gets Steve down, talking to him harshly and warning him not to give him any trouble. Steve remains passive and does whatever Mark says. Mark makes him wipe the foam off himself. Ashim returns and finds the pin and rope. Steve comes back to normal and the pair of men escape the building to a the drain area. Kraal tells Ashim if the foam is wiped off after a few minutes of being sprayed--it is harmless. Steve thanks Mark, touching his shoulder. Fitzhugh takes Dan's place in the woods at the radio jamming but Kraal sprays him with the foam, Ashim at Kraal's side. Fitzhugh begins to show the giants where the complex is.

 

ACT FOUR                

Steve tells Val to get Betty and Barry and go back to the ship and to forget the jamming. She obeys, "You're the boss."  Steve gets back to the complex, just as Mark makes contact with the Space Center but needs 5 minutes more. Steve tells them they haven't the time, "The giants used the foam on Fitzhugh."  He moves for the destruct lever and has an all out fight with Mark. Steve even throws Dan to the floor when Dan interferes, siding with Mark. Machines blow up and spark during their fight. Steve hits the switch just as Kraal finds the place and begins filling the complex with foam. Ashim has had his men block off all the other exits as to Fitzhugh's instructions. Kraal and Ashim order Fitzhugh to wipe the foam off himself. Steve, Mark, and Dan find both ways out blocked. Foam fills the corridors. Steve tells the two men, "Back to the complex and don't let that foam touch you--it's a killer!"  Massive amounts of the stuff flood them in; Dan and Mark telling Steve, "There's no way out."   Steve looks, "Then we'll make a way out! Start digging."  They grab shovels to dig a way out the roof on a small hill. Above Ashim muses to Kraal, "In a year or so we may even find a way to reach the planet of these little people. They may be small but they must be rich beyond our dreams."  Ashim's foot caves into the weak area of the ground...the three men see it lower at them. Steve yells, "Grab on! Quick!"  The trio ride up on his foot as Kraal helps Ashim pull it out and up. Just then the entire complex blows up.

 

TAG

THE BOUNTY HUNTER

The group are awakened in the middle of the night by thumping. Steve, Mark, Dan and the girls see two rangers putting up a sign--a poster offering a reward for the capture of any little people and their spaceship. It has a cartoon of the relative size of the little people standing in the hand of a giant. Chipper's bark brings one of the rangers over to Fitzhugh and Barry. Dan is sent by Steve to check on them. The ranger sneaks up on Fitzhugh and the boy, coming up from behind a tree. Barry and Fitzhugh back off slowly as to not alarm him but the giant reaches down and grabs up Fitzhugh in his hand.

 

ACT ONE

Freeze frame as the hand has Fitzhugh. Dan and Barry stab at the giant hand and they get Fitzhugh out and run. Steve fears thousand of giants, "With these posters out who knows how many thousands of giants will turn into bounty hunters...looking for us. We've all got to work together to get this ship ready to fly somewhere."  Unhappily, they must forego looking for food in favor of finding spaceship repair material. Mark's brashness almost gets him caught by two campers--a giant man and his young daughter while they play catch with a ball. Steve cuts the rope of the tent's corner, making a distraction long enough for Mark to get away from the area. Mark is only angry--Steve told him not to go. Mark asks, "You want an apology?"  Steve says, "Did I ask?"  Barry leads Dan and Fitzhugh to an empty metal food can; then goes after Chipper. In the tent, after the giants leave, Mark and Steve view a giant gun inside a crate with a hole in its side. Mark wants to take the gun. When the two return to camp, Betty gives credit to Chipper for finding a hair pin which they can use if melted down. Val jokes, scolding her, "Silly girl, when a man offers a halo wear it. All that dog did was dig it up. We were the ones who knew it was a hairpin."  Not so jokingly, Val tells Mark after Steve and Dan leave to find Barry, that Steve likes giving orders. Mark tells her he is used to making his own rules and orders. She tells him he is used to that--she's read all about him, "From rags to riches. Chairman of the board of 17 corporations before the age of 30 or was it 30 corporations before the age of 17?"  Before Mark can say something to this, Betty attempts to stop a fight between the two, explaining that the kind of trouble they're in (using Mr. Wilson when talking to Mark) there can be only one man in charge. Mark tells her he didn't have a mutiny in mind. Val jokes, "Why not--a little mutiny would be exciting."  Betty and Mark gives her dirty looks, Val looking a bit down, somewhat embarrassed (?). The giant girl, reading book sees Barry and Chipper. She gives a wary Barry and Chipper a cookie to eat. Barry thanks her and she is glad they like it, unaware her father is sneaking up behind the boy from the trees. Barry yells as the hand scoops him into it, "Let go of me!"  He yells.


ACT TWO


Chipper bites the fingers of the giant and he drops Barry. Barry and the dog run into cover of the bushes. Barry holds the dog's mouth shut as the giant searches. The pair get away to the Captain, Dan, and Fitzhugh--they leave, planning to come back at night to get it. The girl is smiling that they did. Night: Betty compliments Val on her salad and Val tells her she'll put Caesar out of business when they get home. Betty tells her if they get home. Val wonders if Betty thinks they may not. Betty thinks they can if they all pull together and tells Val this. Dan, Fitzhugh, Mark and Steve use the cart to help get the empty can back. Steve asks, "Is the lad asleep."  Betty tells him, "Yes sir."  Steve then has to go over the dozen reasons he has for not wanting to get the gun to both Mark and instigator Valerie, "We don't know if the gun works. We don't know how many shells go with the gun. The gun is to big for us to carry and lug all the way here, too big for us to load and fire, and finally, the giants, now knowing we are armed, will be coming here, prepared to kill."  When Steve retires, Mark readies to go after the gun; Val asks, "What're you gonna do?"  Mark tells her she's had her fun and to toddle off. Betty tells Val, "Well, you have your mutiny."  Betty alerts Steve who is tired of problems, "Look Betty, if there are any more problems let's just put them to bed for tonight."  She explains about Mark and he throws his jacket but Betty tells him Val sort of needled Mark into it. Steve wakes up a tired Fitzhugh, who humorously complains, "Mark my words---I'll never patronize this hotel again."  He also knows Steve didn't want Mark to go after the gun but Steve tells him, "There comes a time when we all pull together or we all pull differently. Next time, he pulls our way."  Groaning Fitz gets up. Steve and Fitz go help Mark get the gun, Fitz telling him, "Mr. Wilson, I was woken out of a sound sleep to help you."  Mark, impertinent at first, works with them to get the gun up. The giants are at the river or stream, the father fishing, the girl reading a book again. The gun falls thanks to a scared Fitzhugh but they manages to get it back. The next morning, when Mark accuses Steve of hoping he would fall on his face with the gun, Steve tells him he is wrong. Steve tells Mark he better be prepared to work and use it because the giant they stole it from knows they have it. He wants Mark to stop idling over the gun and lend them a hand if he can spare some of his "precious" time. Steve tells Fitz he figured right when Fitz guessed the captain wouldn't consider letting them hunt of food today. Barry also reminds Steve they are hungry. Steve reminds them not to go near where the giant campers are. Valerie cons Barry into taking her to the cookie the girl left for him. Barry doesn't want to but she promises not to touch it, just to look at it. Barry calls her mame. When they arrive at the area, the cookie is gone. Val spots fresh wheat bread cut into pieces, easy for them to carry, "You know what, Barry, I bet your giant girlfriend left it for you."   When Barry stops her from moving closer, reminding her of the promise, she tells him that was a cookie promise, not a bread promise. She moves closer and a net trap falls over her. She screams as Barry says, "Miss Scott!" 

 

ACT THREE

Night---Steve, Dan, and Fitzhugh go to the tent where Val asks the girl to help her as her father sleeps. The girl feeds Val who says, "Thanks a lot honey, but what I really want is out."  The three men rescue her out of the net she is under and get away as the girl, happy, watches from bed. Although Steve warns Fitzhugh not to touch it, the con man takes food that is waiting for them outside the tent. Fitzhugh is unaware the area around the food contained glowing material which is now also on his shoes. He makes a trail back to camp. Before the others realize this, Val tells Barry she should have listened to him and asks Chipper if the dog missed her. Mark figures the gun will come in handy after all. Steve orders them to clean as much off as they can while he and Mark load the gun and prepare to cock it. Steve yells at Fitzhugh who starts out with the same shoes on, "Fitzhugh! Get those shoes off!"   The girls, Barry, and Dan with Fitzhugh start to clean some of the tracks off but Chipper warns about the giant---the giant father is coming after them, following the footsteps of Fitzhugh. Steve makes Fitzhugh put the shoes back on at the spot the others stopped cleaning and ran back to the ship---and lead the track off in a different way while the three men continue to prepare the gun. Fitzhugh gets frightened and runs back to the ship...with his shoes on, making a new trail back to it! The giant, with his net, follows the trail.

 

ACT FOUR


The giant reaches the spaceship, also reaching down for it and them. Steve, Dan, and Mark pull the lever back with rope; Mark warning they shouldn't pull it back too far or it will lock. Steve cuts it and the giant is shot. He falls and Betty wants to clean the wound and bandage him. Mark tells Steve they can't do that--it is giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Without proper treatment the giant could die. Steve knows what to do--but won't say it out loud. Mark asks, "Do I have to draw you a picture?"  Steve tells him all right and tosses the hatchet to Mark, "You're elected--get busy."  Mark starts out but can't do it. Val will help Betty, "I took Red Cross training one year when they were hard up."  They bandage the arm with Dan nearby, helping. Steve tells Mark, "That was a dirty trick I played on."   Mark's answer, "Maybe not, captain, maybe not."  Steve calls, "Valerie, Betty, c'mon, we've got to get out of here."  Betty tells the other two to move out first, she'll be right along but she falls off the giant arm just as he wakes up. The giant grabs Betty in his fist.

 

TAG

The giant squeezes Betty in his fist. Steve and Mark prepare to move in; Dan is in bush closer, ready to help if he can. Val runs to Steve and Mark, "Do something!"  Steve warns Mark, "Go for his fingers--one squeeze of his fingers is all it takes."  Fitzhugh, on guard duty, behind them with Barry and Chipper is awakened by Barry who was warned by the dog--a giant is coming. Barry runs back, "Another giant! Another giant is coming!"  The daughter arrives and convinces the man to let Betty free, telling him they bandaged him. She claims they are just scared because they're so little. When two rangers appear, Mark moves to Steve--if he tells them where the ship is they have to move their equipment. Steve tells him to get down--if they move now, they'll get all of them. The ranger tells his daughter he must tell where the little people are. When the two arrive and ask, the father sends the rangers the wrong way in the wrong direction--away from the spaceship. Mark says, "Score one for your side."  Mark insults Fitz, "Well, the ship is safe...for now."   Fitz doesn't take kindly to this but Barry reminds him about the food---which is safe to eat. Fitzhugh asks Steve if he and the others will join him in eating it. ON A CLEAR NIGHT YOU CAN SEE THE EARTH

Night: Mark brings Dan, Fitzhugh, and Steve to an ophthalmologist lab in a crummy area of the town (Dan wonders why he set up shop here). He has checked it out and knows there are lenses inside which they can use on the spaceship. Steve uses the razor hatchet to spark out the electric wiring. A giant doberman shows up and Steve shoots sparks at it with the wire while the others run inside the drain. Steve jumps in where Fitzhugh, after a hysterical outburst, falls asleep in the drain while on lookout. Murtrah, the unstable optometrist (or opthalmologist), comes back in and puts on scientific lit up glasses-binoculars which allow him to see in the dark. He bends down and looks right at them, "Kalar told you I could not see in the dark."

 

ACT ONE


When the binoculars fail for a moment, the three escape. Steve awakens Fitzhugh, "You fell asleep, didn't you?"  The binoculars keep going on and off. The four hide behind a Keep Off the Grass sign in the park they came through. They throw rocks at Murtrah to keep him from adjusting or fixing the binocular-glasses and he drops them. The men bring the glasses back to camp. Mark figures the device works on an infra red principal--combined with a sealed liquid and the lenses inside. The liquid can convert to a gas sensitive to infra red rays. Fitzhugh is glad they got away from that madman. Steve wants to go back to destroy the other two pairs of binoculars. The four return, mistakenly thinking the lights are still out--the giant has a backup generator ("There are more ways than one to supply electric power"). Dan and Steve are up on a stool and the table top. Steve goes to a file box when the giant shows up. Steve jumps onto a lens cleaner spray top, spraying the giant long enough in the face for Dan to escape. Mark and Fitzhugh pull Dan away--he wants to go back and help Steve. Murtrah chains a clock chain to Steve's leg, then nails the chain into the table.

 

ACT TWO

Murtrah believes Steve and company work for a Professor Kalar, who has access to captured Earth people through his friends in government. Kalar and the Academy of Sciences forced Murtrah out of the academy after he told them about his seeing in the dark. Murtrah believes if he had a grant, the glasses would be perfected by now. Steve refuses to tell him where the others are. With the doberman and the glasses, Murtrah tracks Dan, Mark, and Fitzhugh--who wanted to return to the ship to devise a plan to help Steve. Fitzhugh gets caught on a bush and is captured. Dan and Mark hide in a gopher hole---Fitz's yell drew the dog away from it. Dan scolds the girls and Barry for coming to the area to help. Dan tells Barry they will try to rescue the captain and Mr. Fitzhugh. After the three go, Mark tells Dan he is not optimistic. Fitz insults the mad Murtrah, telling Steve, "I am sick and tired of taking it easy! I won't be bullied any longer!"  Steve diverts the giant's attention away from murdering Fitzhugh with the dog by telling the giant he saw Earth through the binoculars---which go out again. The giant doesn't believe him and threatens to let Romellan, the dog, loose on them if they don't show him Earth through the binoculars.

 

ACT THREE


Steve convinces Murtrah to add something to the glasses and when the giant does go into a storeroom for liquid, Steve whispers to Fitzhugh, gives him a note and tells him to give it to Dan. Steve tells Murtrah that Mark can fix the glasses if he lets Fitzhugh go and get Mark. Murtrah agrees but will kill Steve if Mark doesn't show up. The note tells Dan that the giant and his lab must be destroyed for the safety of their group and all mankind. Steve ordered that everything in the lab must be blown up. Betty asks, "I--Uh, everything in it?"  Barry realizes, "Not Capt. Burton, too?"   Dan says, "Everything in it."  Mark refuses to obey those orders and tells Dan this. Dan tells Mark, "I know Steve a long time and he doesn't write notes like this to be melodramatic."  He figures unless there is some way to free Steve without killing the rest of them---that's the way Steve wants it. They get together rabbit meat they have to draw the dog off. Mark throws the mean and lures the dog away from the house; Dan, falling once or twice from the pull of the leash, manages to tie it to a fire hydrant. This allows Fitzhugh to get inside the vent with a homemade bomb device made with flares and other material from the ship. It has a 15 second fuse landing flare. Fitzhugh and Mark watch as Murtrah, using pliers, tortures Steve. Dan cannot watch. Mark decides to show up at the front door, hoping to get Murtrah distracted long enough for Fitz and Dan to lock the store room door--which is very far off the ground. Fitz doesn't think they can do it--it is too high off the ground. Dan tells him they will try. Fitz says, "I'll try anything as long as it helps the captain."   Mark shows up at the door, throwing rocks at it. Murtrah allows him inside.

 

ACT FOUR

With lots of effort and fast talk, Mark and Steve get Murtrah to go into the store room but he insists Mark come with him. Mark gets him to mix liquids that he tells Murtrah will help him perfect the glasses'  mixture. He also gets Murtrah to close the door and create a mixture of volatile gasses. While he does this, Fitzhugh and Dan climb up from the table to the door lock---across a ruler with a 60 foot drop below them. They manage to bolt the door; Dan almost falling. Mark slips out under the door and Murtrah tries to get out. The others cannot get the chain off. Steve demands they blow up the bomb but Mark leaves, going down to get some gun powder from the bomb to help blow the chain off. Steve asked, "What's he planning?"   Dan looks, "I don't know but he usually makes sense."  Steve sends Fitzhugh down to the bomb with orders to set it off if the giant gets out of the door--Murtrah is using an axe to try to cut out of the wooden door. Fitz protests--he will be the only one left, the girls, Barry, and "me."  Steve yells at him and he goes. Steve hides behind the spray can to shield himself from the blast when the chain blows off. The three men climb down to the vent where Fitz was about to set off the bomb, apologizing. Steve tells him not to worry---and sends the three others out. Murtrah gets out of the store room. Steve triggers the bomb...but it won't work!

 

TAG

As Murtrah rushes out of the closet, Steve fixes the bomb, sets it off, and runs out the drain. Murtrah sees the spark and moves to pick it up...and is blown up. Fitzhugh tells Steve, "Good thing that stupid giant believed your tale of seeing Earth through those glasses."   Steve counters, "He's not so stupid--I really did see the Earth through those glasses."

 

           

 

 


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DEADLY LODESTONE

Steve and Mark make a raid on a fish market at night. They are stopped when Inspector Kobick and Sergeant Karf arrive. The giants are very close to them above the curb and shine a flashlight at them. The two Earth men run to a piece of paper. Kobick moves to it and prepares to lift it, "This time we have them, Sergeant."

 

ACT ONE

Kobick lifts the paper and sees a ground drain underneath which Steve and Mark sit by, hidden but listening. Kobick tells Karf a new plot of his will snare the little people. Steve confines everyone to camp until they can get some idea of what Kobick meant. Kobick, later, shows the Secretary of the Supreme Council an expensive detector which homes in on inella--an alloy developed on Earth. Daytime at camp three days later--Betty drops a food plate on Fitzhugh's feet, who complained she made terrible biscuits. Betty runs inside the ship; Val tells Steve, who asks what's going on here---neither Fitz nor Betty meant what they said to each other. Steve thinks it is all petty nonsense, "Now look..."   Mark interrupts him, "No, look, Captain, we're all going stir crazy cooped up here."  He suggests a nice, long walk and to protests from Dan and Steve, adds, "The only visitors we've had have been two squirrels and I don't think they're working for Kobick."  (hey, in the world of Irwin Allen, one never knows). Steve tells Dan to let Mark, who wants to take a nice, long walk---Fitz and Val accompanying him--to go and stretch their legs. Fitz hopes to happen on some food--they do find some nuts. Kobick and Karf zero in on Val, Mark, and Fitzhugh on their walk. Val trips but the other two pull her over to a fallen tree or a tree root. As the two giants approach with a finding device, Val says, "We've had it."

 

ACT TWO


Kobick and Karf stop at the locket Val dropped when she tripped. Later, back at camp as Val nurses her ankle, the others figure out the locket is made of inella--Betty recalled that Val has a matching set with the locket--ear rings in box of junk jewelry. Val tells them it probably wasn't expensive--she bought it herself on Wiltshire Boulevard. Inella was developed ten years ago. Fitz agrees to find everything they have with inella and agrees to bury it if the other three men reraid the food market and really ransack it. At night again, the men must stop their raid--Kobick and Karf are tracking them again. They separate and meet back at camp. Mark yells at Steve, wanting to know which one of them put their lives in jeopardy--he knows it wasn't him. Steve tells him to calm down. Dan arrives and tells them it was him but he forgot about it. Steve is ready to chew him out but Dan explains an inella pin is just below his knee---to set a broken leg he received in the Olympics (which Steve recalls reading about in the newspapers), they set it with an inella pin. Dan doesn't need it now--the leg has healed a long time ago. Mark apologizes but Dan tells him not to. He decides to leave to a swamp area up north which they came across a month ago which has quicksand and bogs--no giant would search up there in safety. Betty goes to fix him up some food--dried things. Barry offers to come stand guard with Chipper but figures he and the dog would only be in the way. Dan tells him it is not that--he just has to get set up first. Barry nods, "Yeah, I guess we would be in the way."  At the swamp, Dan stops the croaking of frogs, grasshoppers, crickets, and other insects with a clap of his hands, "Benefit of a short term duty in Asia."  They test the bog--Dan tied to a rope moves out into it---and goes down some. Steve is holding the rope and tells him to turn around and come back---they know enough about how deep it is. Dan turns but Steve yells, "Dan freeze!"  A horrid, black and red, hairy, giant spider--a black widow maybe--crawls at Dan from a web above him!

 

ACT THREE             

Steve ties the rope to a rock and chucks a stick into the 8 legged horror, knocking down (and presumably into the quicksand). He pulls a frustrated Dan out, who tells Steve to just go. Steve is about to, but looks at his knife, which he used to cut the rope off Dan. He gets an idea ("Maybe the best idea I've ever had."). It is to operate if they can contact Dr. Brule--who is in solitary confinement for life. Steve is hopeful and leaves. Waiting for a not-so-ready Fitzhugh to emerge from the spaceship, Mark and Steve leave camp with tools. Val tells them their idea is crazy--to call Warden Barmac (or Balmer) from Kobick's own office so that when the cold hearted warden calls back to verify it is Kobick..they will be there. Fitzhugh stands guard near an ash tray stall. Mark poses as Kobick on the phone line; Steve as a Dr. Zale--and gives clues to Brule about, an operation Brule helped him with..."on a boy...a very small boy."  The warden listens in and does check--his call comes through just as Kobick leaves the office; the Inspector having returned between calls (Kobick's phone number here--837-415). Mark said, "If it doesn't work..we haven't lost anything."   "Except Dan,"  Steve reminds him. Steve and Mark call Nurse Helg, admitting they are from Earth. Steve meets her, going to a wall behind a bench the woman is sitting on. They plan for her to visit Brule and bring a walkie talkie. After Steve leaves, Kobick arrives, alerted by Helg, who says she doesn't want to go to jail.

 

ACT FOUR


Dan is very jumpy when the other discuss his operation. Steve tells him it will be in a sewer drain close to the prison. Val already has all the supplies ready. Fitzhugh will dig up the inella and the others will spread the inella all over the city. Val will help with the operation (in the script and promotional material Betty helped do the operation--which makes sense). Fitz tells them he was just about to come up the idea to spread the inella himself; Steve laughs--it was his idea; Betty and Barry react negatively. Helg meets Steve, Dan, and Val at the drain in the street floor at night--telling them she will do the operation. She told Kobick and the warden, who were going to stop the operation midway through. She responds to their not believing her with telling them phones could be tapped and the authorities could have been listening in when they called her (but since they did it on Kobick's phone, wouldn't the authorities have grabbed then them? Maybe not). She goes on, "I had to. Under our form of government, walls have ears. Now they think I'm a loyal citizen."   Brule would never betray them and she tells them they must not betray him. They must go through with the plan as Brule prescribed---a fake radio to radio operation. In reality, Dan goes with Helg for her to do the operation in the hospital, just before dawn. Steve made him make the decision on his own. Val joins the others, each separately spreading the inella. Steve fakes the radio operation call--Brule being listened to by the crummy Warden. Very near morning or early morning: Val throws inella into a garbage can which is then picked up by a giant sanitation truck. Karf reports jewelry on a second story building, a key chain high in a tree, and a slingshot made of inella. Kobick laughs at some of that (one of his only laughs of his appearances, if not the only). Karf drives him to Jablo Park. Warden Barmac steps on the radio Brule has, stopping the operation mid way, not realizing it was a fake. Kobick and SID find a box of pigeons high on the park brick wall---with inella in it. Then, they pick up one inella reading--toward the hospital. They rush toward it.

 

TAG

Helg puts the pin in front of SID Headquarters and Dan in the woods. Dan asks where the others are and Steve tells him, "Waiting for their co-pilot."  Mark and Steve help carry him, as he cannot walk on the one leg, between them, to the spaceship.

 

NOTE: During this epilogue, before Steve and Mark show up to Dan, we can clearly see the feet of Gary Conway, who is just standing there, waiting for his cue to run out of the forest to Dan.
