BBC Children in Need Returns on 20 November with a Christmas Special Preview

CINThe BBC Press Office announced the line up for the annual BBC Children in Need televised fundraiser which will return this year on the Friday, the 20th of November 2009 at 7pm on BBC One

Among the highlights of the seven hour live show is similar last year, there will be a preview of this year's Doctor Who Christmas special. As you may recall last year, the Doctor Who Christmas special, The Next Doctor was previewed during the BBC Children in Need show by showing the first two minutes of the special.

Barry Letts Passes Away

Barry LettsBarry Letts, one of the most influential producers of Doctor Who, has sadly passed away. 

News came over the net just as Doctor Who: Podshock was to begin recording episode 165 and it was confirmed by Gary Russell that indeed we lost one of the champions of Doctor Who today.

CBBC Autumn/Winter Announcements Include Dreamland and SJA

DreamlandCBBC has confirmed that the animated Doctor Who adventure Dreamland starring David Tennant as the Doctor along with Georgia Moffet playing companion Cassie Rice and with David Warner playing the villainous leader of the Viperox will be premiering on the BBC One red button interactive service and the Doctor Who website first.

Tennant For Breakfast

David TennantAbsolute Radio (UK) has announced that David Tennant will be joining Christian O'Connell this autumn for "a run of breakfast shows" leading up to his final Doctor Who specials.

The Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show runs from 6am to 10am on Absolute Radio and David Tennant wants to be there for all of it as opposed to just doing an hour here and there. He has even offered to come in early at 5:15 prior to O'Connell to be part of the pre-show brain storming.

Doctor Who and Torchwood to be Offered on Netherlands' SCI FI On Damand

NBC Universal's SCI FI On Demand is coming to Ziggo in the Netherlands reports It will offer Doctor Who and Torchwood among other hit series such as Star Trek: The Next Generation.

With 58 percent digital TV penetration or 4.2 million Dutch households, NBCU is looking to other platforms to extend their reach with on-demand services in the region.

David Tennant to Star in Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men

David Tennant is to play George Milton in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men in a BBC Radio 4 dramatisation reports the He will be playing opposite Liam Brennan as Lennie Small

Slated to run early in 2010 in Radio 4's Classic Serial slot, Of Mice and Men chronicles the story of two migrant workers whose dream of owning their own place is destroyed in 1930s California.

The reports that it has been adapted for Radio 4 by writer Donna Franceschild for whom David Tennant had worked with in 1994 in Takin' Over the Asylum.

Kai Owen Heads Volunteering Drive for Save the Children

Kai Owen and Naoko Mori at Gallifrey 2009Kai Owen (Rhys Williams on Torchwood) will head up an emergency Wales charity volunteer drive for Save the Children according to a report in The charity is looking for emergency workers to raise money when disaster hits such as earthquakes, typhoons, disease outbreaks, etc. 

"When an emergency strikes, Save the Children leap into action so they can reach children and families caught up in a disaster as quickly as possible," Kai stated.

Blackadder Creator Richard Curtis to Write Doctor Who Episode

Richard CurtisRichard Curtis, known to most for creating the popular Blackadder series starring Rowan Atkinson and for romantic comedies like Four Weddings and a Funeral has told The Sun that he will be writing a story for the 11th Doctor (Matt Smith).

Curtis, aged 52, revealed, "There will be a monster. And a famous historical figure will battle the monster." He can not reveal much more.

Some of speculated that the historical figure could be none other than Sir Edmund Blackadder himself. Though this is just speculation.
