The Doctor regenerates on the way to Icon 31, rare Paul McGann appearance in New York

Paul McGann and Daphne Ashbrook
An unexpected change in the filming schedule for The Hobbit  means that Sylvester McCoy will no longer be able to attend for I-CON 31. But Icon quickly announced that Paul McGann will be joining them instead.

This is a very rare appearance by the actor that portrays the Eighth Doctor on screen and in the Big Finish audio adventures. He joins previously annouced guest and co-star Daphne Ashbrook.

There is a video message on YouTube explaining the change:

Sylvester McCoy Will Be Back in New York in May

For the first time in more than a decade, Sylvester McCoy (the 7th Doctor from 1987-1989 and the 1996 TV movie) will be appearing at a New York event. On Sunday, the 16th of May 2010, Sylvester returns to New York for a Who York event at Cafe 50 (in Manhattan) starting at 6:30pm.

To our understanding the event is already sold out. Tickets were only $20 each. There may be some available the door, but contact Who York (http://whoyork.com) ahead of time to be sure. In addition, Sylvester will be signing items (yours or one picked up at the event) for $20.

We review all 10 Doctor's eras of Doctor Who in this Deca-Doctor Special of Doctor Who: Podshock. As we approach the new 11th Doctor era, we review where we came from with the previous 10. Included are interviews we conducted over the years with various actors to play the Doctor (including Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy, Paul McGann), some of which have never been featured on Doctor Who: Podshock before.

Gallifreyan Embassy and Sylvester McCoy on WLIW in 1987

In August 1987, WLIW, a PBS station in Long Island, New York ran the epic Patrick Troughton 10 part story, The War Games as a marathon pledge drive. The Gallifreyan Embassy was there volunteering on the phones throughout the six hour event. We have already posted the first pledge break of the marathon, here are three more, starting with the 4th break (after episode 5, they skipped the break after episode 4) which includes a pre-recorded segment with the then new Doctor, Sylvester McCoy and producer John Nathan-Turner (with NJN's Eric Luskin). Sylvester talks about landing the role of Doctor here.

In the background can be seen Ken Deep of Doctor Who: Podshock among other Gallifreyan Embassy members, Beth, Tim, Monique, Pete, PJ, and others. This pledge break originally ran 17 minutes, but it is has been edited down to under 10 for YouTube.

The Eleven Doctors Special for Children In Need?

The Daily Mirror is reporting that all eleven Doctors will be coming together for a special one-off special for Children in Need this November. It reports that the 15 minute episode will be included in BBC1 annual Children In Need appeal in November and shooting of it will begin in September.

This is not the first time a rumour of this nature appeared in the tabloids. The same thing was said to be happening last year for Children in Need except with 10 Doctors which did not happen.

The article states that "images from their original shows, stretching from 1966 to 1974" will be used for the actors William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, and Jon Pertwee who have since passed away. They will make cameo appearances through footage from these previous episodes.
