The upcoming 2011 Doctor Who Christmas special is once again about Christmas to no surprise. It appears to finally have a name too, Doctor Who: The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe. Here is the video promo for it:
Evacuated to a house in Dorset from war-torn London, Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril, are greeted by a madcap caretaker whose mysterious Christmas gift leads them into a magical wintry world.
Starring: Matt Smith and Claire Skinner. Executive Producers: Steven Moffat, Piers Wenger and Caroline Skinner
Once again there will be a Doctor Who Christmas special this year, a 60 minute drama produced by BBC Wales for BBC One. Set in the World War II era, it stars Matt Smith, Claire Skinner, Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir, and Alexander Armstrong. Production has already begun and is expected to continue through mid October.

Cardiff, 21 September 2011: Production has started on the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas Special in which the Doctor (Matt Smith) finds himself in war-torn England embarking on a magical and mysterious adventure with a young widow and her two children.
If you took part in our live show or if you listen to Doctor Who: Podshock 232, you will know at the time of our live recording (5pm EST 26 December 2010) that the latest Doctor Who Christmas special, A Christmas Carol still had not shown up on iTunes to purchase or rent.

Even though we are still a couple weeks away from the airing of Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol (coming to BBC (6pm) and BBC America (9pm) on the 25th of December), we already have a release date for the special on Blu-ray and DVD.
Just in time for Gallifrey 22, the special is slated for release on the 15th of February. So much for giving it as a Valentine's Day gift. Along with the special, the accompanying 'Doctor Who: Confidential' on it and 'Doctor Who at the Proms 2010' will be included as bonus material.
We can also assume that the special will be available on iTunes the day after it is shown on BBC America, so figure on it being there on Boxing Day.
The BBC Press Office released more information about the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special for 2010, titled, A Christmas Carol. The special will be transmitted on the BBC and BBC America on Christmas Day.
